Just a day after Love Is Blind Season 2 contestant Jeremy Hartwell filed a lawsuit against the Netflix dating show, the production company behind it, Kinetic Content, has responded.
Hartwell, a 36-year-old Chicago entrepreneur, filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, accusing the production company of underpaying the contestants, while also ‘depriving them of food, water and sleep’ while plying them with excess alcohol.
Kinetic Content responded to the lawsuit in a statement to US Weekly on Thursday, revealing Hartwell was only on the show for a week.

Statement: Kinetic Content responded to the lawsuit in a statement to US Weekly on Thursday, revealing Hartwell was only on the show for a week
‘Mr. Hartwell’s involvement in season 2 of Love Is Blind lasted less than one week,’ the statement began.
‘Unfortunately, for Mr. Hartwell, his journey ended early after he failed to develop a significant connection with any other participant,’ the statement continued.
‘While we will not speculate as to his motives for filing the lawsuit, there is absolutely no merit to Mr. Hartwell’s allegations,’ the statement added.

‘We will vigorously defend against these claims,’ the statement concluded.

Hartwell’s lawsuit alleged, ‘the only drinks that [the show] regularly provided to the cast were alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, energy drinks and mixers.
He also claimed that, ‘hydrating drinks such as water were strictly limited to the cast during the day’ and that the producers, ‘cut off their access to personal contacts and most of the outside world.’

‘At times, defendants left members of the cast alone for hours at a time with no access to a phone, food, or any other type of contact with the outside world until they were required to return to working on the production,’ the lawsuit alleges.
Hartwell is represented by Chantal Payton of Payton Employment Law, PC, of Los Angeles, who claimed in a Wednesday statement the show made the contestants, ‘hungry for social connections and altered their emotions and decision-making.’
Hartwell was one of the original 30 contestants on Season 2 of Love Is Blind, though he was not featured on the show at all, failing to move beyond the ‘pod phase’ of the show.

Hartwell shared an excerpt from his journal during his time on the show in the Love Is Blind pods, describing the experience as ‘surreal.’
He added it was, ‘somewhat disconnected as if I were caught in the current of a river that suddenly arose around me.’
‘Filming Love Is Blind was one of the most intense and memorable events of my life and thanks to journaling and reflection, it remains an experience that I’m at peace with, regardless of the ups and downs,’ he captioned his post.
