As I reported on Thursday, Week 2 of the NFL season kicked off with a Thursday Night Football divisional showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs won 27-24 in a back-and-forth game. You can read about that game here.

We saw more one-possession games in Week 2. Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa unleashed against the Baltimore Ravens, while Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown joined elite company, and both New York football teams won on the same week?!

Week 2 Scores

New York Giants defeat the Carolina Panthers 19 – 16.

New York Jets defeat the Cleveland Browns 31 – 30

New England Patriots defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers 17 – 14

Jacksonville Jaguars defeat the Indianapolis Colts 24 – 0

Miami Dolphins defeat the Baltimore Ravens 42 – 38

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeat the New Orleans Saints 20 – 10

Detroit Lions defeat the Washington Commanders 36 – 27

San Francisco 49ers defeat the Seattle Seahawks 27 – 7

Los Angeles Rams defeat the Atlanta Falcons 31 – 27

Arizona Cardinals defeat the Las Vegas Raiders 29 – 23 (OT)

Denver Broncos defeat the Houston Texans 16 – 9

Dallas Cowboys defeat the Cincinnati Bengals 20 – 17

The AFC West remains the most competitive division; however, there are many good teams this season, and who would have thought that the Giants would start the season off 2-0?

The Cardinals and Raiders went back and forth until the very end. In overtime, the Cardinals could not capitalize on their possession. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr threw an incompletion that was nearly intercepted by the Cardinals’ defense. Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow fumbled twice; on the second fumble, the Cardinals recovered it and returned it for a touchdown.

Stat Leaders

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa – 36 completions on 50 pass attempts, 469 yards thrown, six touchdowns, and two interceptions

Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz – 30 completions on 46 pas attempts, 337 yards thrown, three touchdowns, and one interception

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson led the league in rushing yards in Week 2 – 9 carries, 119 yards, one touchdown

Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey – 15 carries, 102 rushing yards

Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill – 11 receptions, 190 receiving yards, two touchdowns

Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle – 11 receptions, 171 receiving yards, two touchdowns

Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown finished the game with nine receptions, 116 yards, two touchdowns, and two carries for 68 rushing yards. St. Brown became the third player in NFL history to record eight-plus receptions in eight straight games. He also became the third player in NFL history to finish a game with two receiving touchdowns, 100 receiving yards, and 50 rushing yards. The future is bright for the 22-year-old wide receiver.

Week 2 continues on Sunday Night Football as the Chicago Bears head to Lambeau Field to face off against the divisional rival Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers looks to bounce back against a familiar foe.

On Monday Night, there will be two games. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills face Derrick Henry and the Tennessee Titans. Additionally, Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles will host Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings in the second game on Monday. We will have the recap for those games as well.

This could be the most competitive season we have seen in some time.
