Lawyers aren’t cheap and those who represent high-profile clients like, say, presidents, cost a fortune. The good news for Joe Biden is that he has one (a fortune), although how he amassed it is a question that the House GOP-led Oversight Committee is attempting to delve into, albeit not without significant resistance.
The even better news for Biden, though, is that he’s getting a free legal assist from Oversight Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD), according to the committee Chairman, James Comer (R-KY).
On Thursday, Comer issued a press release in which he detailed Raskin’s seeming focus on defending Biden rather than actually examining the evidence of corruption. Per the release:
“Ranking Member Raskin is playing lawyer for the Biden family instead of engaging in real oversight for the American people. When the facts don’t go the Biden family’s way, Ranking Member Raskin lodges baseless accusations. But unlike Ranking Member Raskin’s distortions, bank records don’t lie. Just a few weeks ago, when making public the Oversight Committee’s first subpoena to a bank, Ranking Member Raskin tried to brush away the documents as just purchases at Papa John’s and Starbucks, conveniently omitting, as just one example, a Chinese company’s $3 million wire to an associate of the Biden family who proceeded to transfer more than $1 million of it to various Biden family accounts. Given his antics with the first bank subpoena, the American people and media should be asking what information Ranking Member Raskin is trying to hide with his latest distraction. No one should be fooled by Ranking Member Raskin’s games. We have the bank records, and the facts are not good for the Biden family.
“Multiple individuals have approached the Oversight Committee as whistleblowers with a desire to share information confidentially. It should be no surprise that whistleblowers do not trust Ranking Member Raskin. He has revealed himself to be untrustworthy by releasing disingenuous, misleading financial information from the Committee’s investigation. These desperate attacks launched by the Ranking Member will undoubtedly continue, but it’s a sad display that the American people can see through. Instead of throwing a tantrum about the Committee’s oversight, Democrats’ time would be better spent continuing to coordinate with the Biden family to come up with a believable explanation for what the bank records continue to show. As we continue to work to uncover the truth, we will be undeterred by Ranking Member Raskin’s antics.”
Those latest antics referred to by Comer? Raskin wrote his own five-page letter on Thursday, decrying Comer’s media appearances and “evasive treatment of witness information.”

Comer has claimed multiple times on national television that there have been four “whistleblowers” regarding the investigation into whether President Joe Biden or his family are involved in an influence-peddling scheme.
Raskin claimed, however, that he was told the only two people to come forward with information about the investigation were Eric Schwerin, the president of Hunter Biden’s investment firm, and Kathy Chung, an executive assistant to Joe Biden while he was vice president.
As noted in the article, however, committee staff commonly (and understandably) handle whistleblower information cautiously. For his part, Comer, as noted above, insists multiple whistleblowers have come forward but expressed concern re: Raskin.
Comer responded to the letter, blasting Democrats in the committee as being “openly hostile to [the] investigation,” and he confirmed to the Washington Post that multiple people came forward as whistleblowers to Republicans on the panel.
“As ranking member Raskin well knows, the Oversight Committee has a responsibility to protect whistleblowers,” Comer said. “The Oversight Committee’s investigation remains focused on suspicious activity reports held by the Treasury Department and Biden family members’ and associates’ bank records we’ve obtained.”
While Comer and Raskin trade barbs, fortunately, the committee’s investigation does appear to be progressing, albeit slowly. Expect more smoke to be blown in our faces by Raskin. But you know what they say about where there’s smoke…
