Paul Ellering is an American professional wrestling manager and retired professional wrestler who is best known for managing the Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal), working with them from 1983 to 1990 and again on occasion between 1992 and 1997. Regarded as one of the greatest wrestling managers of all time, he has also served as the manager for the Authors of Pain and the Final Testament.

  1. He spent his childhood years growing up in Melrose, Minnesota.
  2. Paul Ellering wrestled in Japan for the International Wrestling Enterprise promotion as part of its Big Challenge Series in April and May 1981. It was during the tour that Paul and Terry Latham defeated Mighty Inoue and Rusher Kimura in a two-out-of-three fall match to win the IWA World Tag Team Championship
  3. In 1982, his knee was injured severely while wrestling for Mid-South Wrestling in a match with Robert Gibson. This subsequently ended his full-time wrestling career.
  4. After Georgia booker Ole Anderson employed Pual as a manager, Ellering went on to form a stable named the Legion of Doom including wrestlers such as King Kong Bundy, Jake Roberts, and the Road Warriors.
  5. From 1983 to 1992, Paul Ellering managed the Road Warriors and this was the time when the tag team excelled in various National Wrestling Alliance territories, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, All-Japan Pro-Wrestling, and the World Wrestling Federation in 1992. Paul also served as the real-life manager for the team, booking their matches, lining up their flights, setting up hotel reservations, and keeping track of their expenses.
  6. He gained ownership of the Historic Rock Tavern on Big Birch Lake in Grey Eagle, Minnesota in 2002. After being on the market for three years, it was sold to a new owner in 2020.
  7. As a member of the Road Warriors, Paul Ellering was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2011.
  8. On June 8, 2016, he made his return to WWE programming at NXT TakeOver: The End and revealed himself as the manager of a debuting the Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar), after their attack on American Alpha, turning Ellering heel for the first time in 18 years.
  9. As a non-playable character, Paul Ellering made his video game debut in WWE 2K18.
  10. He was an accomplished powerlifter before entering the wrestling business and set a world record in the deadlift at 745 pounds (338 kg).
