Peter Godwin began his work as a human rights lawyer after graduating from Cambridge University. However, he decided to pursue a career in journalism. In 1893, he reported on President Mugabe’s North Korean-trained Fifth Brigade slaughtering over 20,000 villagers in Matabeleland’s southern region. He became a foreign reporter for the British newspaper The Sunday Times. He covered the conflicts in Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, and Zimbabwe during the time.
