Phoebe Burgess has penned an emotional post about her struggles with anxiety and depression.

The former ex-wife of NRL star Sam Burgess made the heartfelt admission on Thursday to coincide with R U OK Day.

‘I have spent a lot of time, not being ok. Pushing on. Pushing through. Surviving. Existing,’ the 32-year-old shared on Instagram.

Talking about her 2018 pregnancy, Phoebe wrote, ‘I had stopped engaging, smiling, eating or drinking or sleeping.’

‘I didn’t pass urine for nearly 2 days … I was 26 weeks pregnant. With my son [William].’

‘I was forced to check in with my mental state because my son’s fragile little life depended on me being more than just ok.’

‘So, in September 2018, for the first time in my life, I was given medication to combat anxiety and depression’.

The mother of two concluded, ‘We don’t know what’s coming for us in life – but I do know you can control only what you can control – and you might be able to control your ability to say, I am not ok.’

Phoebe’s post comes after she paid tribute to her dad, Mitch Hooke, on Father’s Day.

The budding influencer shared a series of photos to Instagram documenting her time at the Southern Highlands property owned by her family.

In the images, Phoebe was joined by her father and her two children.

She wrote at length in her caption: ‘Fathers’ Day… We all think our own Dad is special, growing up I always said ‘he’s my hero’.

‘But it wasn’t until my life imploded that I truly bore witness to what being a ‘hero’ to your children means.’

Phoebe went on: ‘It means being there, in the quiet moments, when no one is looking. It’s Dad waking at midnight when his grandson is sick (every single time for six nights straight, helping me clean the vomit, change the bed, lower the temperatures), it’s kissing Billy goodnight every single night.

‘Checking the cheeky bulls every single morning. It’s scone Sunday’s for Poppy, it’s giving up his bed for a rogue toddler who wants his spot, it’s roasting marshmallows inside (even when The Cats are playing).

‘It’s teaching and leading by daily example whether it’s learning to care for an animal or a veggie patch. It’s taking your scared baby girl in, with her two babies, when she had nowhere else in the world to go.

‘You’ve been there since the beginning and every moment in between. Thank you, Dad. We love you,’ she concluded.

Phoebe moved to her parents’ estate in Bowral, in New South Wales’ Southern Highlands, 90 minutes south-west of Sydney, following her split from footballer Sam Burgess, 32.

The couple split in October 2019, after four tumultuous years of marriage.

Sam hit headlines again in February 2021, after he was found guilty of intimidating Phoebe’s father Mitchell Hooke during a heated clash in the aftermath of their messy split 18 months prior.

However, the following month in March, Judge Mark Williams overturned that decision in the New South Wales District Court.

In May 2021, Sam pleaded guilty to three driving charges following a February 22 police traffic stop where he tested positive for cocaine.

He avoided conviction, and was instead slapped with two $581 fines and ordered to complete a traffic offenders program.
