The devastated parents of a teenager killed while riding an e-scooter in an alleged hit-and-run crash have today described him as a ‘wonderful son, brother, uncle and grandson.’
Junior Shay Alexander, 16, was fatally injured in the early hours of Sunday after being struck by a car in Bromley, south east London.
The teenager was taken to hospital, but died from his injuries later the same day. The car involved was found dumped nearby, while Junior’s e-scooter was stolen as he lay dying.
A 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision, causing death by dangerous driving and providing a positive alcohol breath test has been bailed until next month, pending further enquiries.
A 46-year-old man turned up at a south London police station with Junior’s e-scooter the following day. He was arrested on suspicion of theft before being released under investigation.
In a statement, Junior’s parents, said: ‘We are still in shock and struggling to come to terms with the fact that our beautiful son is gone.

‘As we continue to deal with his unbearable loss we would ask that any witnesses to the incident please contact police.
‘Any information – no matter how small – could be relevant.’

The Metropolitan Police attended with members of the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and found Junior, who had been riding the scooter, with serious injuries.
He was taken to a central London hospital where he later died. Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information.
