While Britons endure their third lockdown this January, hundreds of racegoers are letting their hair down at the Magic Millions Classic on Australia’s Gold Coast.
Dressed to impress in flirty frocks, fabulous hats and dapper ensembles, revellers have braved the wind and rain to enjoy one of the season’s most popular race days in Queensland.
Despite the rainy afternoon, many glamorous racegoers got stuck into the party spirit early, knocking back glasses of wine and cans of alcohol.
Racing Queensland‘s COVID-safe plan, which permits one person per two square metres in racing venues, restricted crowds on Magic Millions day to 14,000 to 16,000, according to Racenet. Queensland has had just 1,291 total cases of coronavirus, while the UK has had more than three million.

Vibrant frocks and eye-catching patterned dresses were the orders of the day for many, with one woman wearing a very bright orange ensemble, while another donned a pink floral outfit.
Racegoers were snapped socialising and enjoying the sunshine, with some even taking a much needed break from the festivities on the grass.
Elsewhere a trio of friends were seen opting for matching monochrome looks, while another group of ladies injected a splash of colour to the dreary day as they arrived in a flurry of bright dresses, polka dots and head-turning hats.
Meanwhile, the men looked as equally sharp as the women, with most sporting sophisticated shirts and trouser combos for the popular event.

Revellers were keen to capture their fun times at the event, with several people spotted taking selfies as they made their way around the outdoor venue.
As the sun set some decided a snack was in order, picking up treats from the food tents and carrying them back to their friends and family.
Magic Millions is Australia’s number one thoroughbred sales company and each January on the Gold Coast, the company holds its flagship event, the renowned The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival and Race featuring 12 days of fun, fast-paced action on and off the track.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk made an appearance at the Gold Coast Turf Club and praised the organisers for conducting an event that was Covid-safe.
‘This is a signature event for the Gold Coast, it brings a lot of tourism’, the QLD premier told 7News. The highly-anticipated racing event is worth over $10million in prize money.
Horse Shaquiero came in first for the $2million 2YO Classic prize. The runner up horses were Alpine Edge and She’s All Class, who placed second and third respectively.
