A decrepit apartment has hit the rental market for $815 a week but is dividing opinion among potential tenants with some comparing it to a ‘dungeon’.
The unit on Marion St in New Zealand‘s capital Wellington offers one bathroom and four bedrooms – with only one appearing to have a window.
Each room has been listed at $200 per week despite some appearing to have just curtains for doors as well as paint peeling off the walls.
The apartment was advertised on Facebook this week and quickly became flooded with comments obliterating the house with one going so far as to say it ‘smells like depression‘.

University student Isaac Kirkwood spent the past two years in the house before he moved out, adding it was known to host ‘humongous parties’ and that the ‘mould’ came and went.
‘It’s messy but we could sort of do whatever the f*** we wanted there, he told the NZ Herald.
He said despite there being a lot of negative feedback, they’d already received some interest.
‘I don’t think we’ll have any issue with getting someone in there.’
Another former tenant who shared the post, added some notable features included ‘an actual working oven’, and a washing machine as well as being close to bus stops.

But many were left unimpressed with the state of the rooms.
‘Smells like depression, cigarettes and bong water,’ someone wrote.
‘I’d rather live in a tent in the bush,’ said another.
‘What is the legal definition of the word ‘room” one commented.
‘I can smell the mould from here,’ another wrote.
‘$800 to live in worst conditions than a f**kling prison,’ one person said.
Meanwhile, others admitted they ‘were keen’ to move in and fondly remembered the numerous parties they’d attended at the house.
The unit was previously managed by Riverstone Property Management.
A property manager told the publication the building had been improved after some older tenants were kicked out who had been dealing drugs and ‘doing dodgy things’.
The property has recently been taken over by Quinovic who are taking action to ensure ‘Healthy Home compliance standards’ are met.
