As my precious Aunt Nancy used to say, “God bless their little, pointy heads” and that’s precisely how I’m looking at these frustrated Democrats. It has been an enormous collective effort to destroy Ron DeSantis via Hurricane Ian – Rahm Emmanual’s “never let a serious crisis go to waste” maxim – and they cannot, for the life of them, Katrina him into oblivion. Thwarted at every turn, the unrelenting slings and arrows bounce off as if he were encased in a protective force field.

Oh, the exasperated rending of Banana Republic office casual shirts and gnashing of teeth is real.

The first liberal shots were misfired before Ian even made landfall, as Andrew Sullivan and other wags tweeted that DeSantis was one heck of a poseur as far as sending migrants on airplanes, etc., but what was going to happen when he ran into a real-life disaster. I took pleasure in disabusing them,

On September 27, as Ian was approaching, the media, FEMA, and the White House tag teamed a preparation “complacency” narrative in an effort to damage Florida’s response before it even hit, and DeSantis – the man who’d declared a state of emergency 4 days prior, already called up 5000 FL National Guard, had another 2000 on standby, power crews from all over the country staged to roll in immediately after the storm, his teams constantly coordinating with country emergency management officials throughout the state (considering, up to that moment, Ian’s track encompassed practically the whole state), and so forth – smacked it down brutally hard.

In fact, for all the whimpering about DeSantis and complacency, it was the Biden administration that was a little behind the curve. As always.

The next scandal they desperately tried to whip up concerned FL First Lady Casey DeSantis as the face of the Florida Disaster Relief Fund at Volunteer Florida. Word went out to torpedo donations to the fund, as it was just a front for the DeSantos reelection campaign and nefarious GOP purposes.

What is it with these New York liberals always piping up? Vile people.

Well, poop. Turns out the Florida Disaster relief fund isn’t for Casey DeSantis to buy campaign hoodies with, nor is it a GOP money laundering scheme. It’s a private state fund, specifically for handling donations after natural disasters, established not this month, nor year, but in 1994 by…*gulp*…DEMOCRATIC Gov Lawton Chiles. It’s also rated at 100 pts on Charity Navigator. POOF! There went that.

Network news crews kept finding people who’d been blasted while staying on barrier islands, and were pissed off that no one had knocked on their door yet, even though the only way to get to said barrier island was by boat. And those boats were helmed by tireless Coasties and volunteers, who were hitting the islands, and taking sick and injured folks off first, which, if you were healthy enough to bitch to Norah O’Donnell, meant you didn’t truly qualify for a ride or a knock yet. POOF again.

Daffy VP Kamala Harris announced relief would be race-based, and then there were collective palpitations and shouts of RACIST at DeSantis warning looters FL residents will shoot and it’s perfectly legal. Even Joy Reid couldn’t make that stick.

Peter Schorsch, a thoroughly miserable liberal scribbler now safely ensconced in New York City, but formerly a writer of turgid, inflammatory political tripe for the St. Petersburg Times, decided to weigh in from his safe harbor on the issue of evacuation times. His deeply cherished progressive values are so firmly entrenched that, as DeSantis spokesperson Christina Pushaw proceeded to eat his lunch and wrap him in the ZipLock putting him straight, he resorted to an online version of his tongue out – typing Xtina for her name and cracking on her looks (I’d show you, but he blocked me.). She nailed him.

However, the “EVACUATIONS WEREN’T ORDERED IN TIME” seemed good to run with…until they weren’t. Again, DeSantis crushed them like bugs.

Then came…the boots. The L’Affaire d’ BOTTES BLANCHES. Oh, they for sure had the governor now. A Lefty Meme-O-Rama ensued. This was Kerry in the vacuum bag and Dukakis in the tank, and DeathSantis going DOWN in a pool of ridicule!

Only it wasn’t to be, alas. Because these idiots don’t know the first thing about those white rubber boots and Florida. Up here on the Gulf Coast…

…and in Central Florida, those boots?

Total. FAIL.

Meanwhile, with all the epic destruction that Lee County – home to Ft. Myers, Sanibel etc – suffered as ground zero for a Cat 4 hurricane, power crews have restored service to over 54% of customers already. The causeway to Sanibel might well be repaired before the end of the month, whilst the other one of those washed-out bridges?

Leadership. We got it. White boots and all.
