ROCK star Jimmy Barnes has been forced to cancel his tour after being rushed to hospital in “unbearable pain”.
The Aussie singer told his 234 thousand Instagram fans he needed emergency surgery.
Jimmy, who worked with iconic band INXS and Ed Sheeran, shared a photo from his hospital bed with his wife Jane and said he was sorry to announce the rest of his tour Down Under had been called off.
He penned: “I’ve got some bad news unfortunately.
“I had a twinge in my hip when I was leaving Dunedin on Thursday morning and by late last night the pain was unbearable so I went off to hospital.
“The doctors have recommended a remedial medical procedure ASAP followed by some physio to address the issue.
“These doctors don’t muck around! Providing all goes to plan, I’m expected to make a full recovery in six weeks.
“However, as a result of this unexpected surgery my August and September solo shows will all be impacted.”
The 68-year-old star, who had open heart surgey last year and hip surgery in 2022, continued: “Ticket holders will be contacted with further info in the coming days once we have new plans in place.
“As you know, I hate to let anyone down, but I’m also never going to compromise the quality of my gigs.
“I apologise for the inconvenience this will cause everyone – I HATE moving shows! – but thank you for understanding.”
The star was born in Scotland and is best known as the lead singer of band Cold Chisel.
His biggest hits are Driving Wheels and Lover Lover.
He has the most hit albums of any Australian artist and his big hit Lover Lover was actually written by Jane, his wife.
Jimmy teamed up Kylie Minogue and Ed in 2021 when Ed made a tearful appearance in Australia at the memorial for his late music-mogul pal Michael Gudinski.
Speaking at the time, Ed said: “Jimmy Barnes and Kylie are actually singing on that on the album now. I’ve got them singing backing vocals on it.
“From knowing Michael, they are the most important people in his life musically. He was always saying, ‘Kylie’ or ‘Jimmy Barnes’.
“When I was in Australia, I sang with Kylie and I was hanging with Jimmy Barnes and I said to them, ‘You guys have to be on the song.’
“So I got back to England, I recorded it and sent it off to them and they’re on it.
“I used to send Michael songs because he would always say, ‘You need to send me songs for Jimmy’.
“So I used to send him loads. He always wanted me to sing with Kylie and I ended up getting to sing with her.”
