A Russian woman nicknamed ‘Al Capone’ when she terrorised neighbours on the south coast was back before the courts today charged with assaulting an off-duty police officer.

Olga Woolnough, 47, became known as a ‘neighbour from hell’ when she lived in Worthing after she threatened locals, held all-night parties and staggered around constantly drunk.

She also painted her seafront home bright pink.

Woolnough was given an ASBO in 2015, which banned her from being drunk or having any alcohol in public.

Sussex police accused her of waging a ‘reign of terror’ against her neighbours.

Woolnough was thought to have returned to Russia – but she appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court via video link from HMP Bronzefield accused of attaching Adrian Bodenham.

Adrita Ahmed, prosecuting, said: ‘On 28 September, the police were called to The Garrick Arms pub on Charing Cross Road. They had been informed that an off-duty police officer had been assaulted.

‘The defendant had gone into The Garrick Arms pub. She had been drinking other people’s drinks.

‘She was confronted by the off-duty police officer. She threw a single punch, which caused swelling of the police officer’s lip.’

Woolnough, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody after she denied assault by beating.

In October 2020, she was sentenced for groping a 15-year-old boy at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecuting, Martina Sherlock said then: ‘The boy felt uncomfortable due to her shouting, “I’m Russian!” And it was clear that she was drunk.

‘Without any warning, he says the woman came up behind him, grabbed him by the back of the neck and tried to bend him over.

‘He was then grabbed again by the woman on the back of his head and this time she reached around his waist and, over his clothing, grabbed his genitals.

‘He moved away and his friends started shouting at her.

‘He says he was very upset and he was crying.’

Woolnough was given a suspended sentence and ordered to pay the boy £150 compensation.

The court heard Woolnough has 32 convictions for 67 offences but claims she has links to Russian royalty, as she shares her first two names with Russian Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna, a sister of Tsar Nicholas II, who died in exile in 1960.

She has also claimed to have liver condition so serious she will die if she has another drink.

Antonia Gray, defending, told the court ‘She is a Russian national. This is a very vulnerable individual.’

‘She was a very successful businesswoman, but she suffered a mental breakdown in 2016.’

Woolnough’s trial is fixed for 18 November at the City of London Magistrates Court.
