THE SON of the late Ryan O’Neal has spoken out against the Emmys for snubbing his father during their “in Memorium” segment.
Patrick O’Neil, the son of the recently deceased soap opera star Ryan O’Neal, found out the news even though he was not watching the awards show to begin with.
“Wasn’t watching #Emmys, but someone let me know they left my dad out of the ‘in memorial,'” he said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Kind of wish I didn’t know right now but I would’ve found out.”
He continued, “Sad and mad is a paralyzing combo.”
Ryan died on December 8, 2023.
His father was best known for playing Rodney Harrington on the ABC nighttime soap opera Peyton Place.
Every year, the Emmy’s dedicate a portion of the show to remember notable figures in television who had passed in the last year.
This year, Charlie Puth performed the theme song from Friends during the in memoriam segment at the award’s shows 75th airing – an ode to Matthew Perry, who passed in October 2023.
