SABRINA Carpenter paid tribute to Madonna at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday.
Sabrina’s look was “one for the history books,” fans declared, while praising her recreation of one of Madonna’s most famous red carpet appearances.
The Taste singer attended the awards ceremony on September 11 wearing a vintage Bob Mackie gown, which Madonna famously wore to the 1991 Oscars.
Sabrina, 25, turned heads in the vintage, strapless white gown, which was covered in shimmering sequins, pearls, and crystals.
It featured a sweetheart neckline with silver beaded detailing that perfectly complemented the delicate De Beers necklace that Sabrina wore to the VMAs.
The Artist of The Year nominee styled her blonde hair in voluminous locks, as Sabrina channelled Old Hollywood glamor – complete with a bright red lip.
Sabrina’s stylist Jared Ellner revealed on Instagram that the prized gown was sourced from archival fashion stockists Tab Vintage.
Tab’s owner Alexis Novak explained how Sabrina’s vision for the VMAs was realized, telling Vogue, “Her stylist Jared Ellner and his team reached out with a really incredible moodboard
“We sent them a deck of pieces we had in that vein and we’re so happy with what she decided on!”
Fans praised Sabrina’s red carpet “serve” on X, with one person calling it “A PULL FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS!!!”

Bob, 84, acknowledged Sabrina’s VMAs homage on Instagram, while sharing the story of how it came to be worn by Madonna over three decades ago.
He revealed that well-known fashion stylist Maria Schiavo initially “borrowed my sample” of the gown for the Material Girl hitmaker’s Vanity Fair cover shoot in 1991.
“Less than a week later, Madonna herself called and requested her own version of the dress for the 1991 Academy Awards, where she performed Stephen Sondheim’s song ‘Sooner Or Later’ from the film Dick Tracy,” he continued.
Madonna was photographed, wearing the dress, alongside Michael Jackson at the 1991 Academy Awards, as the reigning King and Queen of Pop made a showstopping joint appearance.

Barry and Sabrina first sparked dating rumors in December 2023
They were first spotted having a dinner date at a restaurant in Los Angeles in December 2023.
Since then, Sabrina and Barry have been repeatedly documented going on dates and nights together.
In March 2024, Barry was seen cheering on Sabrina during her set when she opened for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Singapore.
After her set, Sabrina was seen running off stage and into Barry’s arms in the crowd.
The two were also seen standing shoulder-to-shoulder when Taylor took to the stage.

He also noted that Madonna also wore the figure-hugging ensemble in her controversial 1992 coffee table book, Sex.
The gown has also previously been worn by Fran Descher in an episode of the hit Nighties sitcom The Nanny that was aired 30 year ago.
AN ‘ICONIC’ PERFORMANCE
It was a special night at the VMAs for Sabrina, who won Song of the Year for Espresso.
She also delivered a breathtaking performance of her biggest hits, including Please, Please, Please and Taste, after swapping the red carpet gown for a Victoria’s Secret corseted bodysuit.
According to a CNN report, the outfit took over 180 hours to make and was adorned with 18,500 hand-applied crystal beads.
However, it was her on-stage kiss with a background dancer dressed as an alien that became one of the night’s most-talked about moments.
The kiss was a reference to her Taste music video, which included a kiss with Wednesday star Jenna Ortega.
After singing the song’s lyrics, “And every time you breathe his air, Just know I was already there,” Sabrina grabbed the dancer in an alien costume and made out with them.
Fans reacted to the jaw-dropping moment on X, with one person writing, “Sabrina’s kiss with the alien was iconic.”
“Sabrina Carpenter making out with an alien is very on brand for the #VMAs. I’d have been disappointed if she didn’t tbh,” said another.
SABRINA ‘BACK TOGETHER’ WITH BARRY
In addition to her professional successes, Sabrina has reconciled with her boyfriend, the Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan.
A source told The U.S. Sun the A-list stars are back together, following a lovers’ tiff last month.
“Sabrina has been ridiculously busy over the last few months and it put tension on their relationship. Tempers frayed and they had a row and split,” the source revealed.
“But they quickly came to their senses and realised that what they have was not worth throwing away.
“They are back together and really happy.”
