Wendi Mae Davidson, a local veterinarian, reported her husband Sgt. Michael Severance missed his supervisors at the Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene in January 2005.
The military launched an investigation after his disappearance, believing he may have gone AWOL.
Wendi Mae Davidson stood to receive approximately $500,000 in insurance payouts if her husband died, police discovered as they examined the situation more closely.
Michael Severance was reported missing on January 16, 2005. Within 24 hours of telling police her husband vanished, Wendi Mae Davidson filed for divorce and for a restraining order against Severance.

Even worse, a forensic check of her computer revealed that she had looked up material on decomposition in water, indicating that Wendi had most certainly murdered her five-month-old spouse and dumped his body in water.

Michael Leslie Severance was found dead after receiving an overdose of euthanasia medications, according to an autopsy report.
He had been stabbed over 40 times before being dumped in a pond on a ranch in Tom Green County. Family members were not startled to learn of Severance’s death.

Wendi Davidson is suspected of drugging, stabbing, and transporting her husband’s body to the ranch’s pond, where she weighed him down with a boat anchor and other heavy things.
In the drugging and stabbing death of Sgt. Michael Severance, Dr. Wendi Mae Davidson was sentenced to 25 years plus 10 years in prison.
