A rookie cop staggered around a suburban street after allegedly crashing his car into a father and son while almost five times over the alcohol limit.

Traumatised father Rabeh said he thought he was ‘going to die’ after probationary constable Krystian Iwauns, 25, crashed into him in Ashcroft, southwest Sydneyon Wednesday afternoon.

The father and his young son were on their way home from school when Iwauns allegedly crashed his Honda sedan into the front of Rabeh’s Hilux ute, sending the pair into a nearby fence.

Video filmed by witnesses of the crash showed Iwauns staggering around the street and appearing unbalanced after getting out of his car.

Witness Troy Stutchbury claimed the officer, who only graduated from the police academy four months ago, was oblivious to what happened.

‘He had no idea what was going on. He was just walking in circles,’ he said.

Another witness told 2GB the scene of the crash was next to two school so there were a lot of schoolchildren and parents around.

Rabeh said he thought he was ‘going to die’ as the horror crash unfolded.

‘I’ve never seen my son so pale,’ he told Nine News.

Both Rabeh and his son weren’t seriously injured in the crash but were taken to Liverpool Hospital for a precautionary check.

Investigators later found the backseat of Iwauns’s car was littered with empty cans and bottles of high-alcohol cider, beer and a cask of wine.

He was then taken back to Liverpool Police Station where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.243.

NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb said the South West Metropolitan Region officer’s alleged behaviour ‘gravely concerned’ her.

‘His employment status will be reviewed today,’ she told 2GB radio on Thursday.

She said she cannot sack people on the spot, but there is ‘a lower threshold for probationary constables’.

‘There’s a process that I’ve got to serve him papers, he gets a chance to respond but I can start all of that and intend to start all of that before the court matter comes up.

‘I don’t know how you defend it.’

Iwauns is set to appear in Liverpool Local Court on December 14 for a high-range drink driving charge.

If found guilty, he could face a fine up to $3,3000 and a 12-month loss of licence.
