TEEN Mom Ashley Jones’ ex Bar Smith was sentenced to six months in jail for allegedly kidnapping her, but could serve six years in prison if he finds himself in trouble again.
The U.S. Sun can exclusively reveal details of a plea deal Bar, 27, accepted after serving seven months behind bars for the attack on his estranged wife, Ashley, 27, at her Las Vegas home in July 2024.
According to court filings, Bar submitted a plea on February 28 to a misdemeanor charge of battery constituting domestic violence, from the incident on July 7, in which he “willfully and unlawfully used force or violence” against Ashley as he “barricaded doors and prevented” her from leaving.
The type of plea the former Teen Mom star made is called a nolo contendere, which is also known as a no contest plea.
It essentially means Bar chose not to admit or dispute the criminal charges and does not admit any guilt, but accepts the court’s punishment.
In the court’s ruling, the MTV alum was sentenced to six months in the Clark County Detention Center, with one year of probation.
However, if he gets in any domestic violence trouble again in the next seven years, he will get increasingly harsher sentences and fines, with the highest fine of $5,000 and six years behind bars.
On the day of his sentencing, Ashley was scheduled to make a victim impact statement.
However, it is unclear if she ended up doing so.
Beyond agreeing to staying out of trouble in his deal, Bar also agreed to substance abuse evaluations, patenting classes, and no contact with Ashley.
Bar remains in custody, according to the Clark County Detention Center website.
Starcasm was the first to report on the plea deal.
As The U.S. Sun previously reported, the incident unfolded after Bar spotted photos of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter star Ashley and her new boyfriend on Instagram, inciting him to drive across state lines for a terrifying confrontation, police claim.
Bar was arrested and charged with a series of felony offenses following a showdown with Ashley, according to a police narrative obtained by The U.S. Sun.
Bar was initially charged with several felonies including second-degree kidnapping, coercion constituting domestic violence and residential burglary constituting domestic violence.
In the days leading up to the incident, an arrest warrent was issued for “Failure to Pay,” which likely referred to Bar failing to pay child support.
He and Ashley share daughter, Holly Isabella Lockett, 7.
The estranged couple had separated in March of 2024 with Ashley and Holly living in Las Vegas while Bar, who was already on probation, moving to California.
BREAKING & ENTERING
In the incident on July 7 of last year, Ashley called her mother saying she believed Bar was inside her apartment.
She told her mother to call the police if he was and stayed on the phone with her as she entered her home.
When the Teen Mom Next Chapter star opened the door, her mother, Tasheilia, heard Bar in the background saying, “Hello baby momma.”
Tasheilia called 911.
When officers arrived and knocked on Ashley’s door, a male voice was heard claiming, “She doesn’t live here, wrong apartment,” which the officers knew to be false.
Eventually, Ashley was able to come to the door and confirm that Bar was inside and refusing to leave.
“Ashley was very scared of Bariki. She was crying, shaking, and very emotional,” according to officers at the scene.
Once she was safe and Bar was detained, Ashley told the officers that when she entered her home he was waiting for her on her couch and took all her electronics, and he demanded she take him to her new boyfriend’s home.
Teen Mom: The Next Chapter Cast
In September 2022, MTV blended their long-running shows Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2 to one series following the young mothers’ experiences raising their kids and co-parenting with their baby dads. Here’s a list of the entire Teen Mom: The Next Chapter cast.
She refused, and he allegedly threatened her: “Say something again, and I will break your f***ing jaw.”
She told the responding officers she believed him, “due to his violent past with her and was afraid for her life and wellbeing.”
He then allegedly moved two barstools and put them against the front door, telling his estranged wife: “If you’re not leaving with me, you’re not leaving, period.”
CALLING IT QUITS
Less than a month after the harrowing ordeal, Ashley formally filed for divorce on August 1.
She stated that she and Bar had been separated since March and, citing his felony charges, requested sole custody of their daughter.
However, the divorce was later dismissed after both parties failed to attend a hearing in late 2024.
