TEEN Mom star Leah Messer has been hit with two new tax liens, bringing her total debt to $715,000.
Leah, 32, stars on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter with her twins Ali and Aleeah, 15, and youngest daughter Adalynn, 11.
The U.S. Sun can exclusively reveal Leah was hit with a state tax lien for $32,913 on September 16, 2024 and a federal tax lien for $32,646 on July 30, 2024, according to a West Virginia court.
The clerk of court also confirmed Leah’s previous liens remain open and unpaid.
This includes a February 26, 2024 state tax lien for $31,349 and a February 12, 2024 federal tax lien for $163,804.
The clerk of court also confirmed Leah still owes tax debt filed in 2023, including a May 25, 2023 state tax lien for $31,349 and a May 8, 2023 federal tax lien for $290,297.
Leah has unpaid liens filed on June 27, 2020 for a state tax lien for $9,238 and July 8, 2019 for a federal tax lien for $123,841.
In total, Leah owes $715,437 in state and federal tax liens.
A rep for Leah did not respond to The U.S. Sun’s request for comment.
In 2023, Leah commented on her tax trouble, as she said in a statement, “I have worked with many different accountants over the years. At first, I was filing and paying more than I was making, and then I was paying people that had me stall while ‘they handled the tax situation.’
“Apparently, it’s a long process. Then in 2020, the IRS was backed up like the entire world due to COVID. I initially got behind after my divorce from [Jeremy Calvert] and when I went to the rehabilitation facility,” she added.
“I didn’t grow up making the income that I do now, [and] I didn’t have the guidance that a girl at 16 should’ve had to responsibly handle money and make healthy financial planning choices.”
LEAH’S CAREER
Leah has struggled in her career in recent years.
Leah first posted about working toward obtaining her real estate license in 2020.
Then on a 2022 episode of Teen Mom 2, Leah was filmed studying for her new career path.
She said in the clip, “Last year I started an online course to get my real estate license. In a few weeks, I’m taking the exam.”
Leah announced she passed her exams on September 20 after years of studying by captioning a professional headshot on Instagram, “Real Estate Salesperson.”
The MTV star officially obtained her real estate license on September 25, 2023.
She scored a job at Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Central in Cross Lanes, West Virginia.
But the job was short-lived, as she announced she was let go from the company in October 2023 of that year.
Leah said over Instagram, “I wasn’t prepared when I walked into my current sponsoring broker’s office a couple of weeks ago that I would be told that because of unforeseen circumstances, it wouldn’t be a great fit for me at their company.
“So I redirected and started this interview journey with new potential sponsoring brokers. Wish me good luck during the rest of my interviews this week.”
Then Leah revealed she got a job as a server in 2023, as she said on Instagram that she “loves it.”
Leah also promotes brands on social media for income, including Shein.
Teen Mom: The Next Chapter Cast
In September 2022, MTV blended their long-running shows Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2 to one series following the young mothers’ experiences raising their kids and co-parenting with their baby dads. Here’s a list of the entire Teen Mom: The Next Chapter cast.
NEW CAREER
The U.S. Sun previously reported Leah also has a passion for the wellness industry, as she filed a trademark for Go Higher With Purpose on January 20, 2021.
The services for the trademark include, “Personal coaching services in the field of healthy living and health education, women’s interest topics, empowerment, lifestyle, wellness, personal development, entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency.”
Leah also revealed her goal of offering education courses through “online, non-downloadable video and audio recordings and instructor assistance.”
The mom of three planned to start a blog, website, and podcast that will include “self-reliance, preparedness, sustainability and survival training” in addition to healthy living and wellness topics.
Leah will also provide real estate brokerage services under the trademark.
The reality star filed a business license for Leah Messer, LLC in West Virginia a month before the trademark on December 14, 2020.
Leah has turned her life around after a rehab stint for substance abuse.
She has promoted self-love and healthy living to her social media followers.
In October, she posted a photo of herself speaking at an event with the caption, “I was honored to speak and attend the 9th Annual Memorial Walk for those who we have lost to addiction and those who have found their way in recovery at The Parkersburg City Park, Organized by Peer Solutions Behavioral Health.
“It was a truly a moving experience to hear so many powerful and inspiring stories and connect with so many amazing individuals. The event was a great success, and I’m grateful to have been part of such a wonderful day!”
