PARIS (REUTERS) – French Open organisers stated on Wednesday (March 16) that Novak Djokovic is allowed to defend his title because the event prepares to stage what is predicted to be the primary Grand Slam with none Covid-19 associated restrictions for the reason that pandemic broke two years in the past.
France has lifted restrictions in nearly all public areas – besides hospitals, nursing houses and public transports – on Monday, that means the Roland Garros stadium needs to be working at full capability with Djokovic taking it to the purple grime courts.
“As things stand, nothing stands in the way of Djokovic taking part in the French Open,” event director Amelie Mauresmo stated on Wednesday.
The 20-time Grand Slam winner was unable to defend his Australian Open title in January after being deported from the nation in a furore after being initially admitted to the event regardless of not being vaccinated towards coronavirus.
The 34-year-old can be out of this month’s ATP 1000 tournaments at Indian Wells and Miami, unable to enter the United States and not using a proof of vaccination.

While that isn’t required to enter France or any sporting occasion within the nation, French tennis federation (FFT) president Gilles Moretton warned that issues might change earlier than the event begins on May 22.
“There’s still a virus circulating and we have to be cautious. If things were to happen again and the government would take new measures we would not be excluded from these measures,” he defined.
Moretton was optimistic that the Roland Garros stadium could be full after the 2020 and 2021 editions have been hit by Covid-19.
“We started selling tickets on March 8 and 500,000 of the 600,000 have already been sold,” Moretton stated on Wednesday.
“Out of the 150,000 tickets for the night sessions, 100,000 have been sold.”
