Republican candidate Monica De La Cruz has defeated her opponent, Democrat Michelle Vallejo for Texas’ 15th congressional district. While Vallejo has not yet conceded victory, De La Cruz is the projected winner of the race and will become the district’s newest representative.

“Praise God we have won tonight,” the Republican said, on stage at an election party in McAllen.

De La Cruz was one of three Republican Latina candidates who were being looked at as signs that Hispanics are veering away from the Democratic Party. But at this point, it appears she is the only member of the trio that will go to Washington, as the others lost to their Democratic opponents.
