When we talk about folks on the hard left being out of touch with everyday Americans, this story is what we mean. Joy Behar, one of the co-hosts of “The View,” beclowned herself while reacting to a New York Times/Siena poll showing that Americans are more worried about the economy than about supporting leftist causes.

The conversation, which took place on Tuesday’s airing of the show, centered on the political debates taking place in the country in the lead-up to the midterm elections. Behar brought up the poll analyzing American attitudes toward the economy.

“Well, what’s depressing is that the New York Times released a poll today that says that 71 percent of voters agree that democracy is under threat. But only 7 percent of voters rank a threat to democracy as a major issue this election cycle,” she said.

“I find that so depressing, I can’t begin to tell you,” she added.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg chimed in: “That’s why I don’t like polls.”

“Well, you can debate the poll but this is what people are saying,” Behar replied.

She continued:

“I understand, I mean inflation has people — you can’t food on the table, it’s very depressing, and if you can’t put gas in your car, and you know inflation and rents and everything else is piling up because of various reasons, you know one of them is the pandemic.

“But to think that the other party is gonna be able to solve those problems is really ludicrous because the Republican Party is happy to let corporations never pay another tax the rest of their days, they will cut Social Security, they’re going to cut lunches for children.”

“They are not going to help you, so why would you vote for them?” the co-host asked. “And yet, I see that it’s very close, that people are not understanding what the stakes are. And I find it, I find it sad and depressing.”

Perhaps we shouldn’t be too hard on Behar for not understanding why the economy would be such a source of concern for us plebes. After all, she is worth $30 million according to celebritynetworth.com. Additionally, she’s currently raking in about $7 million per year to spew stupid crap on television.

For the rest of those who aren’t filthy rich, inflation and other economic woes are top of mind. Folks like Behar don’t have to worry about increased prices when she sends her valet to pick up her groceries.

But her attitudes on this matter are reflective of many in the so-called progressive elite. They believe their pet issues should take priority over the fact that people are struggling to make ends meet. This is yet another reason why voters are poised to repudiate Democrats in November.
