She is also well recognized for her portrayal of the character of Sheila Watkins in the American TV daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives (2016-2020).

1. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, her family had moved to Atlanta, Georgia, when she was about 9 years old. Her parents got divorced when she was just 3.
2. Her middle name, Tenese, is the Chickasaw Native American version of Tennessee, a nod to her heritage.
3. As both her parents were musicians/singers, she had dreamed from childhood that she would pursue a career in the music industry.
4. In her teenage years, she was a hair model and later became a manicurist and shampoo girl at a hair salon. In her free time, she used to practice dancing at a skating rink.
5. She was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia in childhood but had publicly revealed her condition only in 1996. About 6 years after this, she was hospitalized for 4 months due to a flare-up of the disorder.
6. In November 1999, she published a book of semi-autobiographical poetry entitled Thoughts.
7. In 2005, she and stylist Tara Brivic had opened a children’s boutique called Chase’s Closet (named after Tionne’s daughter). It had to be shut down in 2008, however, while Tionne was recovering from her brain tumor surgery.
8. In October 2009, she revealed that she had secretly battled a potentially fatal brain tumor since March 2006. It was a grape-sized acoustic neuroma on her vestibular nerve that had affected her balance, weight, hearing, sight, and facial movement.
9. Due to the possibility of encountering life-threatening complications related to her affliction with sickle cell anemia, many surgeons were unwilling to perform surgery on her. She had eventually undergone surgery to remove the tumor at the Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.
10. The operation was successful but she had suffered a 3% loss of hearing in her right ear and paralysis on the right side of her face. She had spent more than 3 years in rehab post the surgery. Partly due to medical bills, she filed for bankruptcy in February 2011 and then again in October 2011.
11. In January 2013, when she released her first solo track (titled Champion) in more than 15 years, she announced that the proceeds would go to charities that help raise awareness for people suffering from blood conditions. She has also served as a spokesperson for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.
12. In 2017, she published a book titled A Sick Life: TLC ‘n Me: Stories from On and Off the Stage.
