Today: Where Is Joe Turner Now?
On Friday, March 20, 2022, Joe Turner was sentenced to 55 years in state prison by Judge Steven Whittington. Turner entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder, se3ual battery, and burglary with an assault on March 10, 2022.
His guilty plea rendered it unlikely that the state would seek the death penalty. Turner was classified as a se3ual predator as well.
In an exclusive interview with Jax conducted in front of the Clay County Courthouse, Cooper’s father talked about his thoughts following the court’s decision.
“I’m pleased,” said Jeff Cooper. In any case, 55 years is a lifetime. Four years after her passing, he admitted to Action News Jax that he is still struggling to understand it. It’s just one of those things that happened and I’m having trouble understanding it. In fact, that was probably the hardest thing for me to do.
Jordan was referred to by her father Jeff as the “brightest star” and the “love of his life.” He was one of several Jordan’s family members who got up to speak as the killer finished his sentence.
The murderer, Joe Turner, spoke during the sentencing as well. He apologized for his actions in front of Cooper’s family members.
He told Cooper’s father and brother, “Nothing I can say or do will ever bring Jordan back. “I only wanted to say sorry. Please express your regrets to Todd and Jeff. I apologize.”

What Happened? Cooper’s Murder Case Follow Up Details
The 25-year-old woman had the mental capacity of a young adolescent, according to Jordan’s family. On November 26, 2017, her mother notified the Clay County Sheriff’s Office that she was missing. The neighborhood police department then launched a significant search effort.
Two weeks later, detectives found Cooper dead and covered up the attic insulation of a house. Near her body, her clothes and bedding were found, but her underwear was not. They also discovered a used adhesive bandage.
Cooper had cuts and scrapes on her legs, neck, and chest, according to the medical examiner. Cooper died of asphyxiation, according to an autopsy, and a sexual assault toolkit was gathered.
As the hunt for a suspect continued, Turner was the only person of interest in a separate burglary and grand theft investigation. Turner was taken into custody by the police on those charges in December 2017.
When the police searched his attic, where he was hiding at the time, they found a bag of women’s clothing as well as a pair of women’s underwear.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement executed a search warrant and removed the pair of underwear for inspection. The underwear’s DNA matched Cooper’s.
Moreover, Turner’s DNA matched those obtained from the Sexual Assault Kit and the adhesive bandage. Following the test result, Turner was put in custody.
