This is the full list of egg brands urgently recalled due to concern over salmonella.

Six different suppliers in Canada were affected by the possibility of the bacteria contaminating their products.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recalled Golden Valley, Compliments, Foremost, IGA, No Name, and Western Family eggs on Saturday January 18.

The recall applies to different packages and sizes of eggs.

Only certain lot numbers of the eggs have been affected and a full list of these lot numbers is available on the CFIA website.

The agency warned that people should not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute affected products.

It advised eggs that are potentially contaminated with salmonella should either be discarded or returned to the store they were bought from even if they look normal.

The UK does import eggs from Canada.

The CFIA website reads: ‘Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.’

Animal products, such as raw meat, unpasteurized milk, undercooked poultry, and eggs are the most likely foods to carry the bacteria.

Fruit and vegetables can also be contaminated through fertilizer used on crops.

According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, stomach cramps, fever, vomiting, nausea, chills, headache, and bloody stool.

Most people shake off the illness on their own within a few days but if symptoms are prolonged or become associated with dehydration or a high fever they are advised to see a medical professional.

In the U.S. last month, the FDA upgraded a Costco egg recall to its highest risk level over salmonella fears.

On November 27, Handsome Brook Farms issued a recall notice of 10,800 units of Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs sold under the Kirkland Signature brand name.

The eggs were sold at 25 Costco stores across Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee beginning on November 22.

New York-based manufacturer Handsome Brook Farms said the eggs were not intended for sale but somehow they were packaged and distributed ‘by mistake.’

The FDA updated the recall to a ‘Class I’ as the eggs ‘have the potential to be contaminated with the bacteria salmonella, which hospitalizes 26,000 Americans every year.

A ‘Class I’ recall is a ‘situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death’.

The 24-count cartons with the Kirkland Signature branding were recalled by Handsome Brook Farms in New York because they had ‘the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.’

The cartons included in Handsome Brook Farms’s recall were sold at 25 Costco stores located in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee beginning on November 22, 2024.

Units with Julian code 327 and a ‘use by’ date of January 5, 2025, are included under the recall.

The FDA said in the press statement that the recall was launched after officials at Handsome Brook determined that eggs not meant for delivery to markets had  been packaged and distributed to retailers by mistake.

No known illnesses have been connected to the affected products.
