On Tuesday, at Dodgers Stadium, as future Hall of Fame pitcher Clayton Kershaw was speaking to the media, a 10-year-old fan named Blake Grice approached the Dodgers ace to let him know that his late grandfather had desired to meet the 34-year-old pitcher.

The grandfather passed away due to brain cancer. So Grice took it upon himself to achieve his grandfather’s goal. Grice approached Kershaw, and after Kershaw finished speaking to the media, he noticed the 10-year-old. Grice told Kershaw:

“I want to tell you a quick little story. My grandfather loved you. He watched the 1988 series, and he wanted to meet you and [Dodgers announcer] Vin Scully one day.”

For those who may not know, Vince Scully is one of, if not the greatest sports announcer of all time.

Grice explained the importance of meeting Kershaw:

“So this moment is important to me because I’m meeting you for him. He was from Rodando Beach, and some years ago, he died from brain cancer.”

Grice began to tear up as Kershaw began speaking to him. Once he began tearing, Kershaw left the podium and hugged him. Kershaw told Grice:

“It’s great to meet you,” Kershaw told Grice, adding it “took a lot of courage” to tell his story.

As for the All-Star Game, the American League defeated the National League 3-2. New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton had two runs batted in, and Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton had the third and final run batted in during the All-Star game.

For the National League, Clayton Kershaw was the starting pitcher; he did not allow any runs; however, his Dodger teammate, Tony Gonsolin, allowed three runs in the fourth inning.

Dodgers star center fielder Mookie Betts had the team’s first run batted in, and St. Louis Cardinals star Paul Goldschmidt hit a home run that gave the National League an early 2-0 lead. But due to the American League big bats, they managed to take the lead in the fourth inning and win the game.

Grice already has a career goal in mind. He is pursuing a media career, as he spoke with sports columnist Arash Markazi. Grice said:

“I really feel like he was just helping me calm down my senses, cause I was very emotional,” Grice said. “He’s a nice guy and he wanted to help me get through that moment.”

Wherever his path leads him, it seems like Grice has a bright future in the sports world.
