Where Is Abuse Survivor Ruth Stubbs Now? The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or FLDS, has a long history of encouraging polygamy and abusing young girls who were brainwashed into marrying much older men.
Rulon Jeffs, the FLDS’s then-President, had over 75 wives, 65 of whom bore him children.
He is thought to have started and promoted the concept of polygamy, which has resulted in the abuse of numerous underage girls in Arizona.
Ruth Stubbs was one of the children who were forced to marry someone twice her age. The story of her escape from the FLDS has influenced the lives of many young women in the state.
Ruth Stubbs Was A Victim Of Rulon Jeffs FLDS Polygamy
Ruth Stubbs was the younger sister of Pennie Stubbs, who was also married to the same man, Rodney Holm.
Under the practice of polygamy as promoted by FLDS, the sisters were tricked into marrying the man.
Ruth was only 16-years-old when she was assigned to marry a man she barely knew and already was married to her sister Pennie. She grew up in the FLDS community of Colorado City in Arizona, along with her sister.

Ruth wasn’t very devout and had even been a tomboy, working on tractors and wore jeans to outrage of the other community members.
She fell in love with a 20-year-old cult member who was also practicing. With hopes of marrying the man of her dreams, Ruth went back to the FLDS and pleaded they take her back.
However, she was taken by the community but was married off to a cop who had issued her several tickets for minor violations when she was younger.
At the age of 18, she found out that she was pregnant with their third child and decided she had to do something to change her life.
She contacted her family members who had already escaped the cult. With their help, she managed to escape with her children out in December 2001.
