Graham has not accepted that he murdered Barry and he declares himself innocent until now. There was no known motive but the evidence suggested otherwise.

Kim Barry and Graham Gene Potter crossed paths at Barry’s workplace in Wollongong nightclub.
Gene was then 24 years old whilst Kim was only 19. The two were attracted towards each other and Graham took Kim to his apartment.
After that, Barry disappeared and her family filed a police complaint. The investigators found out that she was last seen with a local miner, Graham.

Till then, Graham had fled which is why the authorities issued a national manhunt. Later, he surrendered himself and he was charged with Kim Barry’s murder.
Gene had first killed the teenager and then dismembered her body parts before throwing them. Her remains were recovered from a nearby mountain lookout.
Although Potter maintained his innocence, he was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. However, he came out of prison in 1996 after serving for 15 years.
