Who is Wendy Williams?

Wendy Williams rose to fame in part due to her no-boundaries approach to her life, which included sharing personal details about her health, plastic surgery and cocaine addiction – the subject of her 2003 memoir, Wendy’s Got the Heat.

She transitioned to television after a successful career as a radio host, known for her hot takes on gossip and skewering of celebrities, including a contentious 2003 interview with Whitney Houston.

In 2022, Wendy’s self-titled daytime talk show ended because of her ongoing health issues. Sherri Shepherd, who filled in for Williams as a guest host, received her own show.

Wendy said in 2018 that she had been diagnosed years before with Graves´ disease, which leads to the overproduction of thyroid hormones and can cause wide-ranging symptoms and affect overall health.

When does Where Is Wendy Williams? her new documentary air?

Is the Lifetime documentary available to watch in the UK?

It is currently unclear if or when Where Is Wendy Williams? will be available to viewers in the UK.

MailOnline has contacted Lifetime Television and Hulu for further information.

What is the controversy surrounding the documentary?

A lawsuit has been filed by a guardian for talk show host Wendy Williams against the parent company of Lifetime, A&E Television Networks.

The guardian, whose name is Sabrina Morrissey, filed the lawsuit under seal (which keeps details in the case protected from the public), according to a report from TMZ, which reviewed court docs in the case.

The focal point of the lawsuit, the outlet reported, could be linked to the documentary that’s slated to be released on the embattled celebrity this coming Saturday.

Sabrina has asked the court for injunctive relief, the outlet reported, indicating her request could be for a judge to stop the network from airing the TV special.

The judge in the case issued an order that it remained temporarily sealed from the public, pending a hearing scheduled for next week.

Despite the concerning portrait from the documentary, Wendy herself is listed as an executive producer on it.

What has Wendy Williams been diagnosed with?

Wendy’s team announced on Thursday that the former radio DJ has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) as well as aphasia – which is a disorder that affects how someone communicates.

FTD is a group of disorders that occur when nerve cells in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain are lost, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. FTD can affect behavior, personality, language, and movement.

The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration describes FTD as a group of brain disorders caused by degeneration of the frontal and/or temporal lobes of the brain that affects behavior, language and movement.

Aphasia, a brain disorder that can lead to problems speaking or understanding words, can be a symptom of it. The association describes frontotemporal degeneration as ‘an inevitable decline in functioning,’ with an average life expectancy of seven to 13 years after the onset of symptoms.

FTD usually occurs in people in their 40s, 50s and early 60s. It can affect a person´s personality, causing a loss of inhibition or inappropriate behavior. It is sometimes mistaken for depression or bipolar disorder, and can take years to diagnose.

There are no treatments to slow or stop the disease, but some interventions can help manage symptoms.

Why was Wendy Williams appointed a legal guardian?

Wendy’s diagnosis came in 2023, but a year prior to that in early 2022, Wells Fargo froze her bank accounts and denied her access to her funds, assets.

The bank claimed to the court that she was being unduly influenced and a victim of financial exploitation.

This resulted in a New York judge appointing a guardian in May 2023 to manage Wendy’s life and finances.

Her family members say they don’t know what sparked the legal action, and the guardian’s identity was not immediately announced, while documents related to their appointment have been sealed.

Wendy’s son, Kevin Hunter Jr. — whom she shares with her ex-husband, Kevin Hunter — comes under suspicion for allegedly stealing some of her money in the documentary, though he denies it on camera.

‘I’ve never taken [money] without her consent,’ he says in the the film, though Wendy’s sister Wanda claims he is still financially supported by his mother.

Where is Wendy Williams now?

Wendy is currently ‘in a treatment facility,’ with her family recently confirming that they can only speak with her if she chooses to call them.
