Amy Harrington Wiki
Amy Harrington Biography
Who is Amy Harrington ?
A Florida woman suspected of drunk driving attempted to prove her sobriety by performing an Irish folk dance, newly released body camera footage shows.
Amy Harrington, 38, was rear-ended by another car a mile from her home in Madeira Beach on April 27. Officers responding to the crash said she was displaying various signs of intoxication, including bloodshot, watery eyes and dilated pupils, so she asked him to walk a straight line to test her sobriety.
During the test, Harrington “struggled to follow instructions and wobbled on her feet and nearly fell over,” an incident report obtained by WFLA said.
When she began to stumble, Harrington recovered by performing “multiple ballet and Irish folk dance moves,” according to the report. Body camera footage of the incident released Saturday showed Harrington’s movements.
Amy Harrington Charged
Amy Harrington, 38, was charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusing to submit to tests.
In the video, Harrington can be seen standing in a dark parking lot in front of a straight white line as two police officers look on.
She started to walk down the line but tripped on her fourth step, then quickly transitioned from the fall into a dance routine.
She could be seen walking to her own tune deftly along the line, then turning and crossing the parking lot as officers watched.
‘Do you want to pay attention so he can give you instructions?’ one of the officers could be heard saying in a later attempt at the test.
“Yeah, well, you sound like my ballet coach,” Harrington replied, and then started walking down the line again.
She once again made it only a handful of steps before she started to fall, and she recovered again with a series of pirouettes and steps.
“That wasn’t right,” the officer said after Harrington finished her routine. She then shrugged her shoulders and continued circling the asphalt.
Incident
The cops could be seen finally handcuffing Harrington once they had had enough.
Harrington refused to submit to a blood alcohol content test and was charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusing to submit to the test.
Officers also said a cup containing alcohol-scented liquid was found in the cup holder of Harrington’s car.
Harrington had also refused to take an alcohol test on March 3, although it is unclear what happened to that incident.
