Who is Bassam Hamzy ?
Ghassan Amoun, the brother of Brothers 4 Life gang boss Bassam Hamzy, has been shot dead in the street.
Amoun was the well-known “next target” in Sydney’s protracted underworld war between the Hamzy and Alameddine families.
The high ranking lieutenant from the underworld was shot while he was sitting in a BMW outside an apartment building in western Sydney.
The body of the 35-year-old man was lying on the street covered by a blue sheet when police stormed the crime scene.
Shooting
Police and paramedics rushed to the shooting on Rawson Road in South Wentworthville around 12:45 p.m. Thursday, but he died at the scene.
The gray BMW that he was driving when he was fatally shot remained in the street around 3pm yesterday.
Several highways, including Rawson Road and two westbound lanes on the Great Western Highway, were closed and motorists were urged to avoid the area.
Amoun is the third Hamzy relative to be killed in less than two years after Bassam’s brother Mejid Hamzy in 2020 and cousin Bilal Hamze in 2021.

Initial investigations lead police to a burned-out car at a nearby intersection at Una and Smith streets, believed to have been used as an escape vehicle.
In June last year, 34-year-old Bilal Hamze was shot and killed after a date with a woman at the trendy Kid Kyoto Japanese restaurant on Bridge Street near Circular Quay.
Despite knowing that he was a marked man, Amoun ignored police fears that he was “at risk” and attended the funeral of his executed cousin in Sydney with grieving relatives.
