Who is Edward Leclair ?
A s*x offender has died after “swallowing” cloudy liquid from a water bottle in a Texas courtroom after being convicted of s*xually assaulting a child.
Edward LeClair, 57, began drinking the liquid after the jury found him guilty on count one and continued to drink while the other counts were read on Aug. 11.
He had faced five counts of child s*xual assault against a victim, which took place in 2016 according to the Denton County Jail.
LeClair had been waiting to hear the verdict in the 16th District Court in Denton, Texas, along with his attorney.
First Deputy District Attorney Jamie Beck of the Denton County District Attorney’s Office said things had initially been normal.
But when LeClair heard that he had been convicted of the first count, he grabbed the bottle from him and “swallowed” the cloudy liquid when he was found guilty of the other four counts.
Investigation
Beck told WFAA: ‘The jury walks in and takes their seats, the defendant and his attorney rise to their feet.
‘The jury delivers the verdict to the judge, who then begins to read. It is during this process that he had a bottle of water with him on the lawyer’s table and he drank it.

It wasn’t like he was just taking sips of water. He was literally pulling it back, so to speak.
Beck explained that while those in the courtroom felt his actions were strange, they thought it was just his way of dealing with the situation.
LeClair was taken back to a holding cell after the verdicts were read, before officers decided to check on him due to his strange behavior. he was pronounced dead.
Beck added: ‘Our investigator noticed him swallow the water. He told the bailiff that he might want to go check on him. The bailiff did.
He was unconscious in the holding cell. Shortly after entering the remnant cell, he began to vomit and emergency services were called.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is set to conduct an autopsy to find LeClair’s cause of death.
Texas Rangers are also investigating the incident and have seized the bottle as evidence.
