Who is Elisjsha Dicken?
Elisjsha Dicken, 22, of Seymour, Indiana, was shopping at the mall with her girlfriend, saw the shooter and, minutes after Sapirman first opened fire, returned fire with a handgun, killing Sapirman, Ison said.
The suspected gunman in the Indiana mall mass shooting was carrying two rifles, a pistol and more than 100 rounds of ammunition, authorities said Monday, and the Good Samaritan who fatally shot him is credited with saving “countless lives.”
Three people died at the Greenwood Park Mall outside Indianapolis on Sunday. Two others were injured and the gunman is also dead.
Suspect Shooter
Officials identified the suspected shooter as 20-year-old Jonathan Douglas Sapirman of Greenwood. Sapirman entered the Greenwood Park Mall and entered a bathroom near the food court around 4:54 p.m. on Sunday, Greenwood Police Chief Jim Ison said Monday.
Sapirman remained in the bathroom for 62 minutes, then came out and began firing near and into the mall’s food court with a 6 Saur rifle, killing three people.The victims were identified as husband and wife Pedro Pineda, 56, and Rosa Mirian Rivera de Pineda, 37, both of Indianapolis; and Victor Gomez, 30, of Indianapolis.
“His actions were nothing short of heroic,” Ison said. “He engaged the shooter from quite a distance with a pistol, he was very skilled at it, very sensible tactically. And as he moved to get closer to the suspect, he also signaled people to get out behind him.”

Investigation
In all, investigators recovered 24 rifle bullets fired by Sapirman and 10 bullets fired by Dicken, Ison said.
Although Sapirman had other weapons, he only managed to shoot with a rifle, Ison said. Authorities haven’t figured out a motive, and Sapirman had no criminal record as an adult. He only had minor interactions with police when he was a minor due to a fight at school and running away from home, Ison said.
“There were no indicators that he was violent or unstable,” he said.
Sapirman lived alone, Ison said, and investigators were reviewing reports that he was facing eviction.In addition to the dead, a 22-year-old woman suffered a “leg wound” and is recovering, Ison said, and a 12-year-old girl suffered a minor injury when a bullet ricocheted off and hit her.
Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers said Monday, “I’m sorry for these senseless killings. And I’m sorry for the scars left on the victims and on our community.”
