Who is Jessica Vega ?
A Texas woman was arrested for attempted kidnapping after she walked off with a four-year-old girl inside a Walmart in San Antonio, telling the mother, “Just because she’s yours, doesn’t mean I can’t take her.”
The ordeal occurred Monday at Walmart on Potranco Road when the 28-year-old mother, whose name was not released, was shopping in the store’s aisles with her two daughters.
Jessica Vega, 35, walked over to the shopping cart, pushed the older daughter’s hands off the handle and started to walk away while the younger daughter was still sitting in the child seat, authorities said, KTSA News reported.
When the distraught mother saw her daughter being taken away by a complete stranger, she confronted Vega, who would not return her daughter to her.
Several witnesses began to intervene along with a store employee, who rushed to her mother’s aid, according to a statement the San Antonio Police Department issued to DailyMail.com.
Arrested and Charged
Jessica Vega, 35, has been charged with attempted kidnapping. Vega grabbed the shopping cart the 4-year-old was sitting in and started to walk away from her. Once the girl’s mother realized what was happening, she began screaming in horror and witnesses rushed to help.
The attempted kidnapping occurred Monday at Walmart on Potraco Road in San Antonio, Texas (pictured) when the mother, whose name was not released, was shopping in the aisles of the store with her two daughters.
Vega fled on foot as soon as police arrived, but was later detained.
The little girl was uninjured and her mother, clearly in shock, left the store with her baby and her oldest daughter in tow.
There was enough evidence for a warrant to be issued for Vega’s arrest for attempted kidnapping.
Officers with the San Antonio Police Department took Vega into custody hours later after an unknown person called police to report her location.
She was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping. She is currently being held in the Bexar County Jail.
A similar kidnapping attempt took place last month inside a SuperSpar supermarket in the town of Alberton, near Johannesburg, South Africa.

In that disturbing incident, which was captured on surveillance video, an employee removed an eight-month-old baby from her mother’s shopping cart while her mother had her back turned briefly.
Her mother, Daniella Wolff, had placed her daughter in the child seat of her shopping cart while she selected items from the deli section.
But when she turned her back to open the glass door and bent down to pick up the meat, the stranger calmly walked over and grabbed the baby.
The horrific incident was caught on video and shows footage of the butcher shop assistant removing the baby from the cart and walking away with the child in her arms.

In the video, Wolff is seen turning around to put the food in the cart, but is horrified to discover that his eight-month-old daughter is missing.
As Wolff screams in horror, he quickly turns around and sees his daughter being led away by the store clerk who was trying to hide behind an aisle of groceries.
Wolff ran up to the clerk and snatched the baby from her as he yelled, ‘Where were you taking her? What were you going to do with her?
The shocked mother posted the CCTV from the SuperSpar security office on her Facebook and gave her own account of what happened.
She said: ‘I hold her in my arms and when I get to the meat section I put her on the cart to free up my hands and when I find what I’m looking for I bend down.
“At one point, a stranger is seen on the video taking my daughter. I look up and she’s gone. I immediately look for her and find her in the arms of this man.
‘Am I capable of taking it away from him and telling him what he is doing with my daughter? Why does she have her? She’s smiling and laughing and I say it’s not a joke and it’s not funny.
