Jesus Salgado, 48, was arrested yesterday in Merced, California, after he used one of the victims’ ATM cards.

Jasleen Kaur, 27, was kidnapped along with her husband Jasdeep Singh, 36, her eight-month-old daughter Aroohi and her 39-year-old brother-in-law Amandeep Singh from their newly opened trucking business on Monday in the morning.

The police have not yet revealed the motive for the abduction, and they still do not know where the family is.

When the police approached Salgado yesterday, he tried to take his own life.

He is now in hospital in critical condition and not fit enough to tell the police where the family is.

Earlier in the week, police released these images of the suspect, now believed to be Salgado.

“We hope that he recovers because right now, he is our only lead for the family.

“We still have no leads on where the family is, what their condition is,” Sheriff Vern Warnke said.

His arrest came when Amandeep’s wife pleaded for them to return safely.

‘My husband is a very peaceful and calm person. We have no idea why they were taken,” he said.

On Monday, police were first alerted to the case by Amandeep’s car being set on fire.

A 911 call drew police to the scene where the Ram truck had caught fire, but there was no sign of the family.

The hijacker or hijackers have not asked for any ransom.
