The Houston Astros shared in the celebration by posting a photo of the family of three on Facebook with the caption “Congratulations to Jose Altuve and his wife Nina on the birth of their daughter, Melanie Andrea!”

The second daughter of Jose Altuve’s name has been kept out of the media spotlight. The family visited Florence, Milan, Madrid, and Paris while on vacation in Europe in December 2021.

In July 2022, the couple once again served as the Uncork for a Cause charity wine event hosts. The event has now raised more than $200,000 for the Astros Foundation since it began.

Altuve went to a Houston Astros tryout camp in Maracay at the age of 16. He was too short, and the team’s scouts thought he had lied about his age, so they decided not to let him play.

Altuve returned to the camp the next day and showed his birth certificate, encouraged by his father. He received an evaluation from the organization, and on March 6, 2007, they signed him to a contract as an undrafted free agent with a $15,000 bonus after he impressed team executives.

He traveled to the United States in 2008 and hit.284 in 40 games with the Greeneville Astros in the Rookie-level Appalachian League following a great 2007 season in the Venezuelan Summer League, when he hit.343.

He started the 2010 season with the Class A South Atlantic League’s Lexington Legends before moving up to the Class A-Advanced California League’s Lancaster JetHawks.

7. He Was Named AL Player Of The Month For First Time

Altuve received the AL Player of the Month award for the first time in his career for his performance in June 2016. He started for the second straight game and was chosen for an All-Star team for the fourth time in his career.

After the campaign, Altuve won the Majestic Athletic Always Game Award, the MLBPA Players Choice Awards for Major League Player of the Year, AL Outstanding Player, and The Sporting News Player of the Year awards. In the voting for the AL MVP, he came in third place, trailing only Mike Trout and Mookie Betts.

In the 2017 season, he was the Astros’ third-best hitter. He played two games against the Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies, setting a club record for hits in consecutive plate appearances with eight.

Altuve was selected as the American League’s starting second baseman for the MLB All-Star Game on July 8. His sixth start as a starter and eighth overall pick set new records for the team.

The record for most appearances was previously held by Craig Biggio. He led AL second basemen in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, and home runs. For the first time since 2018, Altuve hit.300 in the regular season of 2022.

He also tied a career-high with 66 walks in 141 games. Before Altuve’s opposite-field double in the fifth inning of Game 3 of the 2022 ALCS at Yankee Stadium, the hitless skid had lasted for 25 at-bats, a record for the longest to begin a postseason.
