Who is Kate Greville ?
Former Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs was accused today of harboring a “sinister and ugly side” when he “lost control” and head-butted his ex-lover during a cheating dispute at his 1.7 home million pounds sterling.
The former Manchester United and Wales winger, 48, arrived at Manchester’s Minshull Street Court on Monday morning, where he faced charges of attacking and controlling his ex-girlfriend, Kate Greville, 37, and assaulting to his sister.
Peter Wright QC of the prosecution told the court that Giggs’ private life “involved a litany of abuse, both psychological and physical, of a woman he professed to love”.
The prosecutor said the result of Ms Greville’s decision to break off her relationship was due to an incident in November 2020, in which she and Giggs argued about the former Premier League star’s alleged infidelity.
Charged
The jury heard how Giggs “lost control” and allegedly head-butted his girlfriend at his £1.7million home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, before assaulting her sister, Emma Greville.
She called police and she allegedly told officers about the “toxic” nature of the relationship. Giggs has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Flanked by his legal team, Giggs looked ahead as he made his way through a group of photographers around 9:15 a.m. m. from this morning.
The 48-year-old is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, public relations executive Kate Greville, 37, and causing her actual bodily harm on November 1, 2020 at her home in Worsley, Greater Manchester.
He also faces a charge of controlling and coercive behavior towards Ms Greville throughout their relationship, which began in 2017 and ended with the alleged assault.
Ms Greivlle decided to end the relationship while she was out with friends at Manchester’s Stock Exchange Hotel in November 2020, after learning of Giggs’ alleged infidelity.
Mr Wright told the court: ‘She knew that the defendant had once again been deceiving her.
‘During the night, the defendant’s behavior towards her led her to make that decision and make an early exit. Before her return to her house, she informed her sister via text message of her plan.
She intended to leave before he returned from the hotel. The plan did not work.
“When she was vacating the defendant’s home address, he came back and started arguing with her and tried to stop her from leaving her.”
The prosecutor said she took his phone as “currency” to try to persuade him not to stop her from going.
A heated argument ensued and Giggs tried to grab her phone, which was later found on a fence post in the property’s yard, Wright said.
In the ensuing altercation, they wrestled together on the ground before Greville’s sister intervened, the court heard.
Mr. Wright said: “She (Emma Greville) tried to get the defendant out of her sister.” Because of her pain, the defendant, we say, deliberately elbowed her in the jaw causing her discomfort and shock that he would return violence against her and her sister.

‘The argument between the defendant and Kate Greville moved into the kitchen. The couple continued to argue over his mobile phone.
“At that stage, we say, the defendant completely lost control of himself and deliberately head-butted Kate, causing her lips to swell and bruise. Then Emma called the police, who went to the premises.
Giggs, dressed in a dark suit, white shirt and tie, stood in the dock and identified himself to the clerk when the judge arrived at the courthouse shortly before 11 a.m.
Some 30 reporters packed the public gallery for the start of proceedings, with more watching remotely on a video link.
Last year, a court heard that Giggs allegedly kicked Greville in her back before throwing her naked from a five-star hotel room after she accused him of flirting with other women.
The Welshman is also accused of common assault on his younger sister, Emma Greville, on the same day.
Giggs was arrested by police at his home in November 2020 and released on bail.
He has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty at an initial court appearance in April last year.
Subsequently, a number of cases were moved from the Crown Square building to Minshull Street and also to Bolton Crown Court.
At a brief hearing on Minshull Street last week, Judge Manley said jurors would be sworn in on Monday and the prosecution would follow.
The lawyers in the case showed up remotely to take care of preparatory matters, while Giggs was not required to attend.
Last month, he resigned as coach of the Wales national team after a period of leave from November 2020.
Statement
In a statement, he said he did not want the country’s preparations for this year’s World Cup in Qatar to be “impaired, destabilized or compromised in any way by the continuing interest in this case.”
Giggs met Ms Greville in 2013 after she helped promote her venue Hotel Football, launched with former United teammate Gary Neville.
He divorced his wife Stacey in December 2017 and reached a £40m settlement after he cheated on her with model and Big Brother star Imogen Thomas during their 10-year marriage.
Giggs found love again with lingerie model Zara Charles, 33, who ‘supported’ him through the charges.
During Giggs’ time at Old Trafford, Manchester United won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, four FA Cups and three League Cups.
