Who is Kathleen Riethmuller ?
A new twist has emerged in the case of missing Brisbane woman Kathleen Riethmuller, who went missing from Sydney last October, with police revealing they believe she may be alive and living in Melbourne.
As part of Missing Persons Week, NSW Police put out a new call to find Ms Riethmuller, who broke into Elephant Backpackers in the inner Sydney suburb of Woolloomooloo on 28 October to make a reservation for the night, which he would never honor.
She abruptly left reception without first visiting her room before heading north to Sydney, where she was last seen on security footage visiting shops before walking down a busy street.
Hours later, Ms Riethmuller’s belongings, including her ID and bank cards, were found abandoned 7km away in a backpack on a Lane Cove street, while her phone was discovered by another member of the public in a neighboring suburb.
Mrs. Riethmuller had shopped at Artarmon around 11:40 a.m. m. on October 28 and she was seen again at 2:30 p.m. m. on the same day in North Sydney in a long-sleeved denim dress and black flats.
Police now suspect the 28-year-old may be alive and possibly living in Melbourne.
Missing
“The ripple effect that occurs when a person disappears for no reason or without a trace should not be underestimated,” Toole said Monday.
Missing Persons Register Manager Detective Chief Inspector Glen Browne said police need new information to find Ms Riethmuller.
“Her behavior of hers was clearly out of character when she was last seen, and we have been unable to establish any logical reason for her movements that day and her subsequent disappearance,” said Det Ch Insp Browne.
Investigators strongly suspect that Kathleen may be alive and possibly living in an interstate, and any information to that effect would be very helpful to law enforcement.
“Ultimately, we need the public’s help.”
