Lauren Kay Dean pleaded guilty to murder Wednesday and received life in prison plus 20 years for child endangerment in the January 2020 death of her daughter Jordynn Barrera in Bay City.

Jordynn had Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and was bedridden. She used a feeding tube and required constant 24-hour care.

Dean’s behavior resulted in the death of her daughter while she went to a local club called Shades to party with friends.

Police from Bay City, Texas, went to Dean’s apartment shortly afterward to do a welfare check.

When investigators spoke to Dean, she offered to let them in to prove the children were okay, but 7-year-old Jordynn was found dead, according to ABC13.

Later, Dean was accused of murdering the young woman by neglecting her.

Dean’s other two children, aged five years and three months, were also found in the apartment.

Jordynn was a nonverbal child who had been diagnosed early with Down syndrome and cerebral palsy. Authorities also said the girl could only eat through a feeding tube.

Records show Dean was arrested and booked into the Matagorda County Jail for three second-degree felonies: abandonment, child endangerment, and imminent danger of bodily injury.
