Who is Lee Streng?
Lee Streng, 33, is accused of murdering the mother of two, who was discovered collapsed and unconscious in the house on Condada Avenue, shortly before 5 a.m.
Streng was led out of the house in handcuffs and with his hands covered with paper bags to preserve any potential forensic evidence.
Despite attempts at the scene to revive her, Mrs. Hughes, who was married with two daughters and a grandson, died at the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Fisher said people who lived in the house called paramedics, who then called police.
“It’s an unusual situation, people don’t normally die without any outside influence of some description, it’s not clear at this point how this person died, so we’re investigating,” he said.
“I can’t say much more, it’s very early in the investigation and when things clear up we’ll be able to tell you a bit more.”
He said that Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Streng were acquaintances, but not related, and that the police did not know her.
“Major Crime’s involvement in forensics is determining what we have at the scene,” she said.
An autopsy will be performed on the deceased woman to determine the cause of her death.
Neighbor Jin Liu was woken up by the sound of police cars arriving at the scene.
“I feel really weird because this street is so peaceful,” he told The Advertiser.
Liu added that he felt nervous about his children and other people in the area.
Another local, who did not want to be identified, said the man who lived in the house was “an interesting character”.
