Who is Leigh Pateman?
Leigh Pateman, 43, caused catastrophic life-changing injuries to his partner Ellen Marshall when he set her on fire before leaving her for dead at his home in Skegness, Lincolnshire, on April 22 last year.
He poured gasoline from a can into her lap as she sat on a chair before lighting it with her lighter.
Pateman fled the house, leaving her partner for dead as she burned. He was later found at his mother’s house.
When firefighters discovered Ms. Marshall, she was lying on the ground with no hair and it was difficult to make out her facial features.

Lincolnshire Police said it was “one of the worst cases of domestic violence we have ever seen”.
Ms. Marshall suffered injuries so horrific that she is still in the hospital 11 months after the ordeal that nearly killed her.
She suffered 80 to 90 percent burns to the upper half of her body and had less than a 50 percent chance of survival.
She was transferred to a specialized burn unit and she underwent 12 hours of surgery, but she has since lost several fingers.
She is now being treated at Nottingham City Hospital and she will always need 24 hour care.
Pateman claimed that the gasoline had been purchased for her brushcutter and that he had only poured gasoline on Ms. Marshall to scare her.
She said that she was just playing with her lighter when she set Ms. Marshall on fire.

Police arrested Pateman at her mother’s home, where they found him covered in soot and with burns on his face.
She pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and yesterday she received an extended sentence of over 21 years in Lincoln Crown Court.
Detective Inspector Andy McWatt said:
This is such a tragic incident that it has left Ellen with life changing injuries.
It is likely that she will never fully recover. I hope this sentence brings closure to the family.’
Lincolnshire Police said: “It is a crime you cannot imagine of your worst enemy in your darkest nightmares.” This woman’s attacker was her partner.
‘Just to have survived is a testament to her incredible strength. No one on earth should need to find such strength.
“Not knowing what to say about this incident, we instead want to focus on providing support to those experiencing abuse now.
While this level of violence is rare, domestic abuse happens every day.
‘If you’re enduring abuse, know you don’t deserve it, it’s never your fault. Call 101 or 999 if necessary.
‘Visit a pharmacy and ask for the “safe space”.
‘Tell it to someone you trust. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
