                                  Lisa Diaz Biography

Who is Lisa Diaz?

Lisa Diaz, 40, who has a vulnerability due to a rare blood disease, began homeschooling her two children, Alex, 12 and Helena, nine, after the UK closed in last March and schools were closed.

She just sent her son back to school in November once he took a double hit, yet her daughter has been absent from elementary school for 20 months after Ms Diaz admitted that her ‘eldest fear ” was that their children had Long Covid.

Ms Diaz from Wigan, who is a member of the parent-led Safe Education for All advocacy group, now faces a £ 2,500 fine or prison, but insists she will send her daughter to school once she’s doubly vaccinated.

Missing

Local councils and schools can use various powers of attorney if your child misses school without good reason and the measures include prosecution, where they receive a fine of up to £ 2,500, a community order or a jail sentence of up to three months , what happens with parents who do not ensure attendance.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, she said: ‘My concern is that Covid will harm children.

“ My biggest fear as a parent is that my children will end up with a prolonged covid. I am informed. Unfortunately, the government is not spreading this message that covid is harmful to children. ‘

Long Covid is a patient-driven term to describe the fluctuating and ongoing symptoms of the coronavirus, and according to the NHS, recovery time differs for each individual.

Experts are not quite sure why the condition develops and how to treat it effectively.

At least 1.3 million people are now living with Covid for a long time in the UK, with rates increasing most rapidly in adolescents and young people, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Fatigue was the most common symptom reported to the ONS as part of people’s prolonged Covid experience, and 233,000 of those who reported their symptoms said their daily activities had been “very limited.”

Ms Diaz, who describes herself as an ‘awake left-hander’ and ‘zero Covid fanatic’, faces a fine or prosecution from the Wigan council, but insists she is happy her daughter is attending to school whenever it is safe.

She added: ‘There are no mitigations in elementary schools of any kind, apart from opening the window and a lot of hygiene theater, that’s it.

“Let me say right away that I want my daughter in school. I also believe that school is the best place for children, school has to be safe. I don’t see any controversy in that.

Statement

In a statement, Colette Dutton, director of children’s services at the Wigan Council, told MailOnline: ‘The Wigan Council remains committed to working with all schools and families and has done so throughout the pandemic to ensure that all children can return to school in the safest way possible.

“We cannot comment on individual cases, however the council has advised and supported our schools in accordance with current government guidance.

“For those children who are clearly advised by a doctor that a child should not attend, alternatives are considered and implemented.

“Our principals have worked tirelessly to conduct robust risk assessments and have taken all available safety measures and precautions to ensure a safe return for their students.”
