Malikah Shabazz Death

Malikah Shabazz, the daughter of civil rights activist Malcolm X, was found dead inside her Brooklyn home Monday night, according to two senior law enforcement officials.

Shabazz, 56, was found unconscious and unconscious inside her home on East 28th Street in Midwood just before 4:30 p.m., police officers told NBC New York. She was later pronounced dead.

Shabazz is the youngest of Malcolm X’s six daughters.

She and her daughter, Bettih Shabazz, were arrested in January 2017 on charges of animal cruelty in Maryland.

Several injured dogs were found subjected to “inhumane conditions” inside a stolen U-Haul truck the couple was driving.

Malcolm X made headlines last week after two of the late civilian activist’s convicted killers, Muhammad Aziz and the late Khalil Islam, were exonerated.

Aziz and Islam each spent about two decades in jail for the February 21, 1965 shooting of Malcolm X at the Audubon Ballroom in Washington Heights. Both were released on parole in the 1980s.

The duo and a third man, Mujahid Abdul Halim, were found guilty of the murder in March 1966 and sentenced to life in prison a month later.

No physical evidence linked Aziz or Islam to the murder or the crime

No physical evidence linked Aziz or Islam to the murder or the crime scene, and both had alibis backed by testimony.

Halim, who admitted to being one of the killers, endorsed Aziz and Islam, testifying in the late 1970s that the men “had nothing to do with it.”

He identified four co-conspirators, members of the New Jersey Nation of Islam, but no one else was arrested. Halim was released on parole in 2010.
