MAKING meals from scratch is nothing new, but one supermodel-turned-influencer gives an entirely new meaning to homemade.
Nara Smith has skyrocketed to fame over the last few years, giving her social media fans and followers a glimpse into her easy, breezy lifestyle of domestic bliss.
Who is Nara Smith?
Nara Aziza Pellman was born on September 27, 2001 in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
She is of African and German descent, and speaks both English and German fluently thanks in part to spending her childhood in Frankfurt, Germany.
Nara has a brother, sister, and a maternal half-brother, and is the oldest of her siblings.
She began modeling at just 14 years old, and moved to California at the age of 18 to further her career.
Nara is currently signed with IMG Models, who discovered her through their “We Love Your Genes” campaign in 2015.
IMG was also instrumental in helping Nara meet her now-husband, fellow model Lucky Blue Smith.
Over the years, Nara began building a following on social media.
What started as a way to get more modeling opportunities turned into a full-fledged career as a social media personality and influencer.
As of April 2024, Nara has more than 5 million followers on TikTok, 2.2 million followers on Instagram, and, despite only posting two videos, 77,000 subscribers to her YouTube channel.
The majority of her content falls into the tradwife subculture, which showcases women who believe in and practice traditional sex and gender roles in marriage and relationships, e.g. the traditional view of women as wives, mothers, and homemakers.
She is often seen posting videos of her husband, children, and her now-infamous cooking videos.
In these videos, Nara, typically “put together” and dressed up in designer clothes and accessories, reminiscent of the quiet luxury and clean girl aesthetic internet subcultures, makes meals for her children from scratch.
At first, the videos were seemingly innocuous, showing her baking bread or making homemade pasta.
Over the last few months, she’s shocked and inspired her fans, followers, and even naysayers with videos showing her spending hours painstakingly making homemade donuts, ice cream, and even cereal from scratch.
Nara herself, however, has denounced the tradwife label, but admits her lifestyle isn’t for everyone.
“I’ve always loved cooking,” she explained in a recent TikTok video from March 4, 2024.
“I just recently, in the past year, have gotten really passionate about it.”
“It all started when I was dealing with really severe eczema and I had to make sure that what I put in my body would be good for my body.”
“And that’s kind of how I got into nutrition and food and cooking,” she added.
Nara also took some time to address her religious views, as both her and her husband are Mormon.
“I know that my religion is a very hot topic on the internet,” she admitted.
“I don’t know what I’m doing, I’m still learning and figuring out my own faith.”
“I’m not in any way a hardcore Mormon or anything like that. I don’t wear garments. I didn’t get married in the temple.”
She also admits that she had a very different upbringing and “spiritual journey” than her husband, Lucky Blue Smith, who grew up in the Mormon church.
“Both me and my husband are on our own journeys and figuring out how we want to raise our kids,” she added.
Who is Nara’s husband, Lucky Blue Smith?
Shortly after moving to California, Nara met Lucky Blue Smith, who was also signed to her agency, IMG Models.
The duo quickly hit it off, began dating, and their relationship quickly progressed.
Six months after meeting, the couple got married on February 21. 2020.
“the boy who stole my heart… I married my best friend today,” she captioned a heartfelt video on Instagram of her jumping into Lucky’s arms.
Lucky Blue Smith is a model, actor, and musician.
He was born on June 4, 1998, in Spanish Fork, Utah.
Lucky has three older siblings, sisters Cheyenne Starlie, born in 1993, Daisy Clementine, born in 1996, and Pyper America, born in 1997.
At just 10 years old, he was scouted alongside his three sisters, and signed with an international modeling agency, Next Management, by the age of 12.
After signing with an agency, Lucky moved to Los Angeles with his family, where he balanced his career alongside his homeschool studies.
In 2009, he formed a surf-rock band with his sisters, titled The Atomics.
Lucky has found mainstream success in the modeling world, fronting fashion campaigns for brands like Tom Ford and Philipp Plein.
He’s appeared in editorials for Vogue, GQ, V, Elle, i-D, Marie Claire, and Harper’s Bazaar, and walked the runways for Chanel, Fendi, Versace, and Marc Jacobs, among other notable brands and fashion houses.
Before meeting and ultimately marrying Nara, Lucky was in a relationship with Stormi Bree Henley, a beauty pageant titleholder.
Lucky and Stormi share one child together, a daughter named Gravity Blue, who was born on July 26, 2017.
He is also popular on social media, boasting nearly 3 million Instagram followers as of April 2024.
Nara has gone viral several times posting videos of her cooking for Lucky and their children, spending hours prepping and executing courses from scratch.
Some of her followers, however, have criticized her for doing so, saying she’s setting unrealistic expectations for other moms, wives, and girlfriends.
Nara has continued to shut out the haters, and rightfully so, even adding disclaimers to the start of her videos.
“I just want to put a disclaimer out there that I enjoy taking care of people by cooking for them,” she said.
“This is not something that is expected of me or something that I have to do,” she added.
Do Nara and Lucky Blue Smith have children?
Nara and Lucky are the proud parents of two children, and are currently expecting a third child in 2024.
Despite their young ages, the duo seem happy and content with their decision to be young parents.
“I’ve always wanted to be a young mom because growing up, my dad would always tell us that he regrets having kids later in life,” she said in a TikTok video, as reported by The Independent.
“So I took that advice and it’s one of the best decisions I could have made, and I know it’s not for everyone.”
“I was always very mature and independent and did a lot of things at a very young age.”
“So I never feel like I’m missing out on any of the partying, any of that, because I’ve done all of that.”
The couple have, however, received some backlash for their children’s unconventional names.
Their first child, a girl named Rumble Honey, was born on October 7, 2020, just a few months after the couple officially tied the knot.
They welcomed their second child, a son named Slim Easy, on January 6, 2022.
In December 2023, Nara and Lucky revealed they were expecting a third child together, though they have yet to reveal the name, gender, or due date.
The couple are, however, planning a natural, home birth for their third child.
“volume 3 coming next year,” Nara wrote alongside a video of Lucky and her embracing and showing off her baby bump.
During an Instagram Q&A session, Nara revealed that she didn’t originally plan on having more than two children.
However, her plan “kind of shifted earlier this year since I felt like something was missing and kept having a feeling that our family wasn’t complete yet,” she said.
“Lucky always wanted us to have a third but he respected me making my own decision on it.”
“We decided that it was now or never since I didn’t want them to have huge age gaps and love how close Rumble and Slim are.”
