At the 1999 World Cup, he was the top scorer of the tournament with 461 runs, and the same year he was named CEAT International Cricketer of the World Cup. The Indian team played decisively at the International Trophy Knockout tournament in 2000 and showed its character in the confrontations with Kenya, Australia and South Africa in consecutive matches, reaching the final. Dravid played an important role by making 157 runs in four games at an average of 52.33, including two fifties. Nicknamed The Wall, Dravid received the Player of the Year and Test Player of the Year awards at the opening ceremony of the ICC Cricket Awards in 2004. The same year he became the first and only player who managed to score centuries in all ten test playing countries. He also holds the record for the number of catches made by a player in tests with 210. At the end of 2011, he became the first non-Australian cricketer to qualify for the solemn Bradman Oration in Canberra. In 2012, he became a captain in the Indian Premier League, but that same year he retires from professional sport.

In 2014, he became a member of the board of advisors at GoSports Foundation, Bangalore.
