A North Carolina bus driver has been arrested for paying school children $5 each to have cheek swabs taken for COVID-19 testing.
Raina McManus, 35, was taken into custody Tuesday after parents in Charlotte complained that she had allegedly been taking samples from students on her bus route, the WSOC reported.
The bus driver is accused of taking samples from students at Ridge Road High School without parental or school permission, according to her arrest report.
Sixth grader Dynasty Davis told the outlet that she was among the swabs.
She “she gave me the Q-tip…and she put a swab through my mouth, and when I was done, I put it in the cylinder and gave it to her. She then she gave me $5,” Dynasty said.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district suspended McManus after allegations of her surfaced before firing her last month.
Arrested and Charged
McManus is charged with soliciting without the permission of a school official during school hours and using a publicly owned vehicle privately.

It was not immediately clear what she was using the COVID tests for.
