Rena was the daughter of Conservative Jewish rabbi Martin Sofer, and his wife Susan, who worked as psychology professor. She grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania until her parents divorced, then moved with her father to New Jersey, and went the Frisch School and later North Bergen High School, from which she matriculated. She then enrolled at Montclair State College.
Rena started her career with the role of Joyce Abernathy in the soap opera “Another World” in 1987, and then the following year she began portraying Amelia ‘Rocky’ McKenzie Domeq in the soap opera “Loving” (1988-1991), while in 1992 she made her first film appearance, in the romantic drama “A Stranger Among Us”, starring Melanie Griffith and Eric Thal. In 1993 she got the role of Louis Cerullo in the soap opera “General Hospital” (1993-1997), which won her a Daytime Emmy Award in the category Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and Soap Opera Digest Award in the category Outstanding Younger Lead Actress. During her stint in “General Hospital”, Rena’s popularity soared through the roof, which only enabled her new roles in popular productions. In 1998 she was selected for the role of Eve Cleary in the TV romantic drama series “Melrose Place”, starring Heather Locklear, Andrew Shue and Courtney Thorne-Smith, and then in 2000 broke out from television roles to play Rachel Rose in the romantic comedy “Keeping the Faith” (2000), with Ben Stiller, Edward Norton and Jenna Elfman. All were adding steadily to her net worth.

In 2005 she was selected for the role of Christie Dunbar in the TV mystery drama series “Blind Justice”, while two years later she played Marilyn Bauer in the cult TV action drama series “24”, which only added to her net worth. She then had several unsuccessful film roles, before in 2013 bouncing back with the role of Quinn Fuller in the soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2013-2017), which significantly increased her wealth.
