Who is Rifleman Kieran Trewin ?
A high-ranking British soldier was imprisoned and expelled from the army after forcing young recruits to participate in a nude initiation ceremony.
Rifleman Kieran Trewin, 26, admitted to staging the humiliating event, described as “naked icebreakers”, and forcing young soldiers to stand on a chair and undress in front of up to 20 colleagues.
They were then questioned about their s*x lives and girlfriends, while one man’s father, Trewin, ‘slapped’ his genitals, it was said at a court martial.
The young soldiers, who had recently joined, were also forced to box with each other “completely naked” in addition to the boxing gloves they had been given.

At the two-day court martial it was heard that up to 20 soldiers had been enjoying drinks outside a block before entering to continue drinking in a company kitchen.

However, once in the kitchen, six young soldiers were ordered to stand on a chair in front of the rest of the company and “strip” until they were “completely naked”.
A young soldier refused to participate in the ritual and went to his room, the court heard.
But the rest did what they were told.
One of the soldiers, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, said: ‘The night was not a regular event, and at first I thought it was a social event …
‘Our names were called out and we went to the front … I didn’t know this was going to happen, it took me by surprise.
‘At that time we had been drinking for about an hour. I [and five other riflemen] were at the front. We had all recently joined.
Rfn Trewin shouted our names and we were told to undress, present ourselves on a chair, and tell our life stories.
‘We had to answer any questions they asked us. We were feeling nervous. There were between 15 and 20 people in the kitchen, all young soldiers.

They also asked me about my ex girlfriend … the size of her breasts, if she has a nice butt, if she was a good shit.
‘He wasn’t happy about it. He made me really uncomfortable.
Rfn Trewin approached me from the right and slapped my penis. He teased my penis and grabbed it for a second with his index finger and thumb and rubbed it lightly for a second. ‘
Another soldier told the court how, after being similarly teased, he was forced to fight a young fellow soldier while he was still naked.
The soldier told the court: “We were introduced to an ‘icebreaker’ in the kitchen.
‘[Rfn Trewin] said,’ Some of you are quite new, so you’ll have to introduce yourself. ‘
One by one we take turns standing on top of the chair, undressing and introducing ourselves.

‘When I was in the chair I gave my name, where I lived and what I did before joining the army …
Then Rfn Trewin came up to me and played with my genitals with his finger for three to five seconds. I asked him to stop and covered my genitals.
‘[Later] I also had a boxing match with boxing gloves … [another soldier] was making sure he didn’t go too far – he was the referee type.
“We were still naked at the time.”
Another rifleman added that the doors were “locked” so that no one could leave during naked boxing matches.
He said, ‘They told us to stand on the chair and undress while we talked about ourselves … after that, they told us to sing a song of our choice.
‘[Later] there was a boxing contest. They provided us with boxing gloves and paired us to fight.
‘Everyone in the kitchen saw us fight; Rfn Trewin and [another soldier] were training us and encouraging us to be aggressive towards the other person.
‘There were still about 20 people there and they closed the doors so that no one could get out. They threw me to the ground. ‘
In detailing the ceremony, Commander Peter Barker, the accuser, said: ‘Rfn Trewin was one of the high ranking soldiers within the company.
“There came a time, at seven or eight thirty, when the music was turned down and Rfn Trewin and [another soldier] delivered a report that [the soldiers] were not to take videos or photos.
“Five or six [soldiers] who had recently joined were identified and the procedure explained to them.
“After the icebreaker [a rifleman] says they told him to drink something. Having left a few drops in the beer bottle, Rfn Trewin punched him.
Charges
At trial, Rfn Trewin, who joined the military in 2016, denied touching the penises of two soldiers and hitting another. He pleaded guilty to four other charges, including one of directing the ceremony.
Trewin was convicted of all crimes. He was sentenced to 18 months in military detention at the Military Corrective Training Center in Colchester and dismissed from the army.
Incarcerating the disgraced soldier, defense attorney Andrew Smith told him: ‘[These young soldiers] were new, impressionable, and most of all, they wanted to show they belonged to the unit.
“There was pressure to accompany the ceremony, and this type of behavior is not acceptable.
This was described as an “icebreaker,” but you asked them to stand in a chair and tell an audience of up to 20 people about their girlfriends.
Then there were some naked boxing matches in which two soldiers faced each other.
‘There was an abuse of his position of responsibility as a high-level rifleman … they admired him.
“There is no place for induction ceremonies in the army.”
