Rob is of Lithuanian ancestry. He went to Trinity High School, located in his hometown., where he played soccer, and also excelled in football and swimming. After his matriculation in 1996, Rob enrolled at Auburn University, where he played football for the Auburn Tigers until 1999, after which he transferred to Georgia Southern University and continued playing football for the Georgia Southern Eagles football team. While at Auburn, he was a semifinalist for Lou Groza Award in 1998, but then in 2000 while at Georgia Southern University, Rob won the 2000 NCAA Division I-AA National Championship, and then returned to Auburn to finish his studies, obtaining a degree in marketing.

Before his NFL career kicked off, Rob was in an off-season squad for the Green Bay Packers, but then joined he Charleston Swamp Foxes of the Arena Football League’s minor league system (AF2).

He was close to 50% of the successful kicks, as he converted 12 field goal attempts out of 27. After that, he joined the Carolina Cobras for the 2004 season and completed 17 field goals out of 40, and then in 2005, he played for the New York Dragons, before eventually earning a place in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans the same year.

In his rookie season, Rob completed 30 field goals out of 32 for 99 points, while the following season he had 100% completion, with 32 out of 32 field goals, which was enough for 98 points.

Rob continued in the same rhythm until the end of his career, making all field goals. He had his best season in 2008 when he completed 40 field goals for 127 points.
