Lawler faced Nick Diaz, a potential multiple-time Strikeforce Welterweight Champion, and former WEC Welterweight Champion, in his ensuing UFC fight at UFC 47. In the second round, Lawler suffered the first of his career’s two sole knockout losses. Later, Lawler suffered a second defeat at UFC 50 against the late Evan Tanner, who went on to win the Middleweight Division title in his subsequent match.
