The Barefoot Witness explores the tragic case of Lyntell Washington. The skeletal remains of the 40-year-old man were discovered after a search that spanned several Louisiana parishes.
Investigators discovered that Lyntell had been murdered and that her 3-year-old daughter could have identified the killer. They were eventually directed to Robert Marks, a colleague of Lyntell’s. Therefore, we can answer his questions about Robert’s arrest and his possible current location.
Robert Jovantie Marks was the assistant principal at Brookstown Middle Magnet Academy at the time of the incident in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was Lyntell’s co-worker, but investigation showed they were more than just co-workers. Leslie Parms discovered Lyntell’s 3-year-old daughter in a parking lot on June 9, 2016, and immediately called 911. Her mother’s car was also in the same parking lot.
When police arrived, they discovered that the three-year-old girl also had blood inside Lyntell’s car and on her feet. A startling revelation suggested that the girl might have been present when her mother was killed. She admitted being with Mr. and Lyntell to police. Robby. Then the three-year-old girl remembered seeing her mother shake and hearing a crash. Lyntell’s daughter added that her mother was “in the lake” and that he was cleaning up the blood.
Robert was in a relationship with Lyntell despite being married. When he passed away, she was seven months old along with her unborn child, whose father was Robert. On June 14, 2016, a ditch in Iberville Parish, Louisiana, was where Lyntell was discovered. She had been shot in the head, according to the skeletal remains she left behind. Authorities later claimed that because Lyntell was in her third trimester and the baby had no injuries, the fetus could have survived had she received medical attention.

When questioned, Robert acknowledged meeting Lyntell on June 8, 2016, in a Walmart parking lot in Baker, Louisiana. He claimed that they only had a 30-minute conversation before they parted ways. Robert went on to say that he and some friends were watching basketball games at a restaurant. Although Robert was initially charged in East Baton Rouge, the cell phone evidence made it unclear where the death actually occurred.
Therefore, Robert was charged in Iberville Parish in December 2020. On the night of June 8, 2016, Lyntell and Robert’s phones were located in Ramah, Louisiana, according to cell phone records. In addition, according to authorities, neither Lyntell’s apartment nor Robert’s house in Zachary, Louisiana, nor a nearby landfill had any indication that a crime had been committed. In the end, they decided that she had been murdered in East Baton Rouge and that her body had been taken to Iberville.
The prosecution’s case against Robert at her trial in December 2021 was that he killed Lyntell to hide her relationship with her. Lyntell’s co-worker claimed that she had threatened to go public with the matter. Additionally, the prosecution claimed that Robert had been seeing a third woman and had told her that he was a doctor. However, the defense claimed that the evidence was merely circumstantial because neither the murder weapon nor any evidence that Robert had his phone near him was ever located.
However, the jury found Robert guilty on a number of charges, including second-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping, first-degree feticide, and aggravated kidnapping of a child. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in February 2022, when he was 45 years old. His continued incarceration at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola, West Feliciana Parish, is shown in the records.
